Romney's likeability is dropping

I can't say I'm surprised. Everyone loves an underdog and Mitt Romney is anything but that. With Santorum's recent wins Romney's support is decreasing at an alarming rate. Americans are always quick to jump behind the guy who isn't favored and Romney needs to do something about his image in order to connect to more Americans, or we might be looking at a pretty big political upset. #upsetcity

  1. Even when Mitt was popular, his approval ratings always seemed to be begrudingly so. Now that Santorum has won some states, thereby gaining legitimacy, people have begun to support him as a viable opponenet to the candidate they only really liked because they didn't have a choice. Graham said that people like an underdog, but I think the spike in Santorum's ratings are because of the fact that he is no longer that. Now that Santorum has beaten Romney a couple of times, people now think that he has an actual chance of winning, and more likely to vote for him knowing that he's no longer a novelty candidate. The most telling number of this report, though, should be the one that says Santorum's approval ratings in the general public are lower than Romeny's, even Ron Paul's. If Republican voters know what's good for them (they don't), they'll stop voting for this man.

  2. Well uh.. I guess you could say thing are getting a little weird. The Three State Swipe for Romney boostin' up some points eh. I think that Barrack Barrack being at the top can be fundamentally a very big problem. All candidates have their one side that has a light shining on them while the other sides of issues are covered in a cave full of bats…and what not. Valid Point mentioned by #jakeday in saying "people now think that he has an actual chance of winning and more likely to vote for him knowing he's no longer a novelty candidate" word.

  3. Now that voters see Santorum as a legit choice, he's certainly starting to get some solid backing. Although he started out well behind Romney, he's managed to pull it together when he really needs it. Now that Republicans see that Romney isn't their only legit shot, they're starting to explore their other options, which definitely seems to be helping out Santorum.

  4. Santorum came out of nowhere at the beginning of the primaries, and is now a legitimate chance to become the nominee. Romney has got to be a little angry about the party's inability to back him, because he is losing all support that a guy could ever ask for to people that are just more rightist and crazier than he is. Santorum is locking up the primaries, but for now we must still look at everyone as a contender.

  5. Santorum's public approval ratings still trail Romney even after a triple victory. The more discord there is within the Republican party the less easy it is for there to be a true leader among the crowd. Admittedly a come from behind such as this one would boost Santorum, or any other candidates popularity due to bandwagoning, and with more turbulence within the party the higher the chance that Obama will be reelected, and he still stands with a 53% approval, the only candidate who is over half.

  6. I think people are starting to see how unsure he is of himself sometimes. Rick is the more affable person, so i can see why people are starting to flock to him. However, I wouldnt say Romney's likeability is dropping, more like Santorum's is rising.

    1. Nice word Daniel (affable). And once again, i am proud of you for your last sentence. Romney has always been hard to connect with, so now once that people were able to connect with a candidate (Rick), they got all excited.

  7. It seems like every Republican candidate has had nothing but negative things said about them by the public. The article said that 34% of the public described the Republican candidates as likable---I think that the president of the U.S should be principally be a likable guy. Like we said in class, people are going to vote retrospectively, thus voting for Obama or not voting for Obama.
