The importance of the Arizona debate
This article explains the HUGE importance of the upcoming debate, especially for Romney. Romney needs to get his name and his ideas back out there after the recent Santorum surge. Santorum leads in most of the polls now, so this debate is crucial for Romney to do well, and for Santorum not to screw up. I encourage you all watch it. I know I will.

Romney needs to make a really big push in Michigan or it will look really bad for his cause. Michigan is his home state so that should give him the upper hand, but it does not seem that way. He needs to win this state or else losing of the other three states a couple weeks ago will not look like a fluke. It will be very important for him to win this, and if he loses this and Arizona...it won't bode well for him.
ReplyDeleteI have no faith in the man. I'm all for the upsets. Romney..better pull away with Michigan and if not he better pray extra hard for Arizona. "I didn't try that hard in the past few states and thats why i lost but i'm sure i'll win michigan. no doubt" <-- Not a chance. Arizona…with the whole large mormon population going on..it's possible for a strike back.. #that'llbetheday
ReplyDeleteWell I've watched some replays. Romney seemed a little unsure, even though everyone is saying he won the debate. He seemed out to get Santorum at times, but then right after he would say that he agreed with him in some way or another. It was kind of confusing. However, since people are saying he did win the debate, it definitely shakes things up a bit.
ReplyDeleteIt definitively helps out that Romney "won" the debate, but he still needs to come through in the actual primaries. With the recent Santorum surge, Romney really needs some big wins to put himself back in the race before he finds himself too far behind. Wins in Michigan and Arizona would put him right back in it.
ReplyDeleteRomney not only had to get his views out in this debate, but also has to get people to like him. Romney is a nice guy and all, but the staunch population would love to have the staunchiest candidate get their nomination. This is exactly why Santorum has been so popular over the past few weeks. I don't believe that this debate will have gotten Romney any more likability from the more likely voters in these primaries.
ReplyDeleteThis debate should be important, but the audience's presence, something we touched on in class, renders it meaningless. Because of that audience, the speakers have to play to what they want to hear rather than what they want to say. They can't risk being booed by the entire auditorium, because that would put assign a decidely negative flavor to their candidacy. They're forced to stick to trite, crowd pleasing platitudes that they will know will elicit raucous reactions from the Arizona fanatics. The consequence is that they have to avoid saying anything with substance, or acknowledging an unfortunate reality. The candidate that the audience backs the strongest, that is the most superficial candidate who plays to the crowd by telling them what they want to hear, will win the debate, and gain momentum going into the upcoming primaries.
ReplyDeleteeven though Romney "won" the debate, he still needs to push through - especially lately with all of the attention Santorum has been getting. He better win his home state, along with a few others, to really get ahead in the race.
ReplyDeleteRomney is continuing to do what Romney does best, tell the people what they want to hear. Although this tactic is great for campaigning, it is not a good path to follow if he were president. Santorum needs to find a way to combat Romney's tactics in this political campaign, or he will lose.
