Mitt is strugglin' despite winning the Maine caucus

Romney has a bad week, and a good weekend. David Frum, author of the article says that Romney had to get involved in the contraception controversy, and the gay rights issue. He says that Romney's losses to Santorum is what is causing him to be more involved with social issues.

  1. Romney saying that he is "severally conservative" is going to come back to haunt him. If he does win over the nominee then O'bama will be able to use that against him, and win over some very moderate conservatives that Romney will be trying to win. It will even hurt him in the primaries because, although the majority of voters in primaries are conservative, it ill still scare those moderate and "normal conservatives" away because they won't want a "severally conservative" person getting the nominee.

  2. Romney's shifting views aren't very helpful. I hope he continues to have shots fired on him so we can continue to view his patterns. #neverconsistent Its interesting how his stance has altered since 2002. Severely Conservative arguably doesn't best fit his current image. Glad to know that evidence of his past stances are easily viewable. This man has got some downfalls and needs to recognize them.

  3. This is another example of how the Republicans are destroying their own party. By supporting Rick Santorum, they force Romney not only to engage in these polarizing social issues, but to "lurch right" on them. The problem is that most of the country leans left on these issues, but Romney can only win the primary if he says things like "Massachusetts will not be the Las Vegas of gay marriage," or whatever it was he said. Romney has been forced to deviate from his centrist path which makes him unelectable. It's becoming increasingly more evident that not only to Republican voters not understand modern morality, economics, or logic, but politics as well. The only shot they had of getting Obama out of office was Romney, and now they've ruined him.

  4. It would seem that Romney is getting closer and closer to losing this nomination. What once seemed to be a locked up win now seems to be slipping away. Being Severely conservative is going to lose him severe amount conservative votes to Santorum for there are not enough severe conservative voters out there to get Romney the win.

  5. It seems like Romney is really slipping here. Changing his views and positions so late in the race is definitely proving to hurt him. He should definitely just stick to the stances that he had been having success with. I feel the more he deviates from his previous path of sheer electability, he lessens his chance of actually winning the nomination.

    1. I think eventually he will rise back up and it will be a really competitive election. As of now there is just a major Santorum surge, but as we've seen throughout this nomination process, those come and go. It really is a toss up between Romney and Santorum now, considering that those two are the only two getting media coverage and they both are getting more and more money.

  6. Romney is losing all shots of being able to become the candidate. The right wing of the republican party can not stand his moderate candidacy, and because they will control the primaries, he will be losing more and more states to the new rising candidate of Santorum

  7. I cant really get a definite bearing on Mitt Romney...the guy is all over the place in terms of his policies and his success in the primaries. I think it is a little ridiculous that he referred to himself as "severely conservative". I think that Romney should reflect what he labels himself in his political policies.
