Boy Scouts Reconsider Ban On Gays
As I Boy Scout, I am curious to see what everyone thinks about this talk about a new change in BSA policy. Currently, you are not allowed to be in Boy Scouts if you are gay. This applies to both youth and adults. They are now talking about lifting that ban. This is open to anyone, I am just curious to see what you guys have to say.

I am all for removing the ban on gays! I think having all different types of leaders within the organization sends a positive message to children.
ReplyDeleteIt is my belief also that someone should not be excluded from such an activity based on his or her sexual orientation, especially considering all of the service opportunities offered in Boy Scouts. Why discourage someone from joining a group that helps the community?
DeleteI think allowing gays into the Boy Scouts would be a great idea! Let's be honest, if they are getting (if it is not gone already) rid of the "don't ask, don't tell" in the army, why can't it be like that for Boy Scouts? I don't really see the problem with a gay boy being in it.
ReplyDeleteWhile I can understand the cause for concern that having gay teenagers in the same group might cause, I think that the Boy Scouts really need to end this ban. Even if they don't like gays due to personal beliefs/experiences, I don't think they need to discriminate against them.
ReplyDeleteIt's important to lift the ban. Kids are so impressionable, so if young boys are taught from the beginning that being gay is something that gets you excluded from things or whatnot we'll never make as much progress as possible.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting that the ban isn't really being lifted. The Boy Scouts are simply letting the local chapters make the decision. That's a cop out. Chapters in liberal sections of the country will lift the ban while ones in conservative sections, or heavily affiliated with a religious institution, probably will not. It is outrageous that an organization as respected and involved in the lives of children as the Boy Scouts discrimates against gay people. The Boy Scouts must lift the ban for every chapter in the country.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this is not a real lift, but it is better than nothing. Hopefully, one day soon, a policy will be enacted changing this on a national level.
DeleteI completely agree with Aubrey. If our Army is now willing to allow gays why can't our boy scouts? The Boy Scouts promote so many good qualities and by allowing gay leaders and gay members the troups will be able to learn more than already taught. They will be able to learn more about equality and tolerance.
