Obama’s Cabinet diversity in danger with new picks

Sorry, I don't the title link  worked.

This article is about the diversity, or lack of in Obama's cabinet appointments for his second term. All of the new appointments are white men. I don't think if this is a truly terrible problem, but it would be nice to see some diversity in the new nominees. I definitely think that there is going to be a lot more publicity on this than maybe is necessary.

  1. I don't see a problem with Obama's new appointments. If they are qualified for the job, it shouldn't matter how diverse they are. After saying that, it would be nice if there was more diverse, but if someone is more qualified for the job, I don't really care if you are from a different ethnic group. It is for the best. I rather have someone who is better for a job, than have someone there just because they are from a different ethnic group. I agree with Sebastian about the publicity. People will make such a big deal about it. Honestly people, get over it.

  2. I think that yes people will make a big deal out of it, but is it a big deal? I think it will not be as long as the new appointees prove that they are capable and qualified for the job. We do not always need a lot of diversity in certain situations to accomplish our goals, rather, in my opinion, the most well qualified people. IF they happen to be all white or black, male or female; it will not matter to me as long as they get the job done.

  3. As long as all of the people are competent, diversity doesn't matter to me. Diversity is only an issue if people are hired or turned away based on their gender or race. It would not be worth the problems if the new appointees were incompetent and hired for being different from everyone else. The best people for the job are the ones with the best qualifications, so it shouldn't matter what they are.

  4. Just as everyone said before I agree that a big deal will be unnecessarily made out of this. I would much rather have a qualified person than appoint people for the sake of diversity. If the two were possible this term that would be great because diversity offers a lot of benefits but unfortunately that does not seem to be the case this term. I'm hoping for once maybe this won't be made a big deal by the media, interest groups, etc.

  6. I completely agree with Aubrey. While it is important to have diversity in the cabinet, I believe that President Obama has done a fine job of picking his appointments. Just because he picked all white men for this term doesn't mean that he has picked all white men for previous appointments. President Obama has appointed minorities in the past. This should not be the type of thing that the media should be focusing on when there are other issues of more importance.

  7. I don't really care how diverse Obama's cabinet is as long as they are qualified. He shouldn't appoint anybody to such an important position based on their ethnicity or gender. The media is pretty much forced to cover who Obama appoints and because most people don't know who any of them are, they probably look for little patterns like this or something that might interest the average viewer.

  8. I couldn't careless whether or not the cabinet is diverse or not as long as the cabinet does a good job with the tasks put in front of them. It is surprising given the fact that the Obama campaign prided itself on its acceptance and diversity, but at the end of the day I'd rather it be a bunch of fully qualified white men then have the President select less qualified people just to please groups that call for diversity.

  9. Although it is a good thing to have diversity int the cabinet, but I don't see a problem with it. As long as the new members in the cabinet have shown that they are capable and worthwhile of doing the job. Like Lauren said I would rather have a appoint a person who is qualified and capable then appoint people for the sake of diversity. Also the media is making a big deal out of something that really isn't.
