Boehner Plan Addresses Taxes but Delays Fight Over Spending Cuts

With the fiscal cliff once again looming Speaker John Boehner revealed "Plan B" after President Obama showed his more comprehensive deal. Boehner's plan continued the negotiating but called the president's plan "unbalanced and insufficient".  We talked about this a bit in class regarding the fact that they'll eventually come to an agreement before the deadline expires. What do you think will be the largest compromises? What will either party refuse to budge on?

  1. If I got this right, I feel that what Obama want to do is good! He will be raising taxes on the wealthy and cut spending. I feel that this is a good idea because this will slowly get us out of the national debt. Not to bash the Republicans, but I feel that they will try to stop the taxing on the wealthy, but they may want to roll with it so who knows. As for the Democrats, I feel like they will keep their stance on not taxing the middle class any more. This really isn't my best topic, so I may be wrong on some of these things. I feel that the largest compromise that could happen is that the Republicans agree with Obama's plan, but that most likely will not happen. It is up in the air in my opinion.

  2. Well we now know that the GOP did not back his Plan B at all. They did not even want to vote on it. I am happy to see that the GOP is willing to raise taxes. At least most members realize that needs to be done. I also am glad to see Democrats offering to cut spending in places that they wish they did not have to cut. The only things that are stopping the compromise from happening are taxes and spending cuts. If each side just sacrifices a little on both sides we should be able to get a compromise. However, as the cliff gets closer and closer, it seems less and less likely that they will make a compromise by then.

  3. I am happy the GOP finally moved and was willing to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans. The main priority right now is to get this country out of debt, and the wealthy have the funds to accomplish that goal. We need to do what is best for the country right now, not what is best for the interest of a few people. Raising taxes is only a minor piece of the puzzle though. We need to cut a lot of spending as well. The main thing we need though is bipartisan efforts.

  4. After cutting it close, I'm glad that they were finally able to come to an agreement. However this issue is not something that be decided at the last second. Democrats and republicans really need to start working together. After all this is a country. Hopefully the next four years will be different and there will actually be changes.

  6. It is good to see the GOP and the Democrats finally reach to an agreement. But, both of the parties need to start working together, and not push it to the limit. If this issue doesn't change in the next fours, there is going to be a lot of problems. I think the main goal is to get the debt down as soon as possible, for the betterment of the United States.
