The Santorum Family stuck in another tough battle

The rest of the campaign will be rough for Rick Santorum, seeing as his youngest daughter is very prone to medical difficulties, and the fact that he hasn't been close to frontrunner since Iowa. Even though his daughter is looking better now, I do believe that she still has a high risk of getting sick again due to her conditions. I believe that Rick should slow down his campaign to make sure everything is perfectly fine before he starts again, because he shouldn't put more pressure on his family now. Also, even if he went slower, the biggest fights right now are between Romney and Gingrich, and he has been mostly forgotten, so returning after taking car of his family could start a revival in his campaign.

  1. I'm going to stand with Gail Hebert on this one "your family comes first". It's interesting that he is trying to gain the sympathy of the people for his daughter. As Jim said, should he step away from his campaigning for a little bit and she decides to have some bizarre comeback then he people might look at him a bit more differently as to if he proceeds along and she were to die. However..Man what a way to end this article "Lincoln lost a son in 1862 and became one of our greatest". As Steve Schmidt said a major family issue such as this could definitely help people conclude that this is "too much of a distraction for someone seeking such a high-profit office".

      - i agree. Personally given the situation, my family would come before any sort of political or party agenda that I would be campaigning for. Given that Newt and Romney are the current leaders, with a considerable gap between the other candidates, this sort of situation is probably going to cause Santorum to drop out/halt his campaign, if his interests are where any other family members would be.

  2. I am very sorry to hear the Mr. Santorum 's daughter is sick. It is very big emotional blow, but I think it will let voters see how well Mr. Santorum handles pressure, especially family pressures. Family problems are things that everyday families have, but can cause a huge impact on a Presidents ability to be ready and available at all times. This is something that I think will help prepare his family in the case that he does get elected. It will show them the stresses and difficulties of being the President's kids and wife. Luckily it is not an illness that cannot be cured, but sense she is so young it will be difficult for her to get better. I hope the best for the Santorum Family.

    1. Actually, her illness cannot be cured, and she has already far outlived the expectation for babies born with her condition. She has a fatal chromosonal disorder and will require constant medical attention for the rest of her life. I agree with those who argue that family should come first; I would just suggest that because this is a condition that his daughter has battled for her entire life (rather than a disease that she was suddenly stricken with), that Sen. Santorum is probably so used to living with it that he is able to carry on his political life and campaign without his daughter's condition being an overwhelming distraction. On the other hand, I know that if my daugher was sick like this I would feel the need to be home to help with her as much as possible, not galavanting around the country on a quixotic campaign for President. Just sayin'...

  3. I think it would be very convenient for the Republican party leaders if Rick Santorum's daughter suddenly got so sick that Rick had to drop out of the race and give his endorsement to Newt Gingrich. If C Wright Mills has taught us anything, it's that Rick Santorum's decisions are, let's say, influenced, by certain shadowy power elites. If they want him to stay in the race, his daugher will be fine. If not, she won't.

  4. Santorum definitely has to put the family first, especially considering he isn't the front runner. Sure, maybe continue in with a legitimate shot of becoming president. But as the third guy in the race, its time to go home and care for the family, like most other Americans would do.

  5. Yesterday i watched the interview that took place between Santorum and Hannity yesterday when he addressed the health of his daughter. It's not that he isn't putting family first. He's been with his daughter so much that even he has gotten sick. He has just now resumed doing what he can campaigning, because his daughter has returned to his normal home.

  6. I think that family definitely does come first, but his daughter being chronically ill is nothing new to him, so he knows how to deal with it. I think that he should take some time to go home and take care of his daughter, but he shouldn't drop out of the race because of this. I also think that this situation will get him sympathy votes from some voters.

  7. Santorum should be at home with his family no matter where he is in the race. His daughter is sick and considering he's all about family values, he should be at home supporting his family. He's not even a main candidate in the race anymore so I don't see why he is sticking around.

  8. Santorum needs to pack it in and head home. This campaign has gone better than expected for him and I think that he should cut his losses. with the campaign and go home to take care of his daughter. Politically, I think he'll gain a decent amount of support through sympathy. I think that Santorum is staying in this race for the political exposure like Ron Paul, but I think the sympathy factor he'd get from leaving would get him the same results.

  9. I agree with Alex in that Santorum should call it quits and go home to focus on the thing that matters most, family. I'm not sure if he is really trying to win this election or he is trying to get more political exposure. It will be interesting to see how his campaign plays out.
