Romney Feeling Good about today
With the election looming ever closer Romney feels very confident. The former Governor of Mass. took some shots when his talk about "firing people" was taken out of context and spun to attack him. But even with this slip of the tongue he still feels good. It will be interesting to see what comes out of today. We will have to wait and see... #votetoday

Romney's victory speech was a smart one. In what is an impossibly disjointed republican voting base, Romney united them by talking about the one thing they can all agree upon: that Barack Obama is bad. He needs a rallying cry, a banner under which he can form a succesful coalition of voters, and all republicans can get excited about the one Romney chose. He deflects attention away from his lack of appeal, and by speaking as if his victory in the republican primary is a foregone conclusion, voters may accept the inevitability of his victory, and maybe after this speech they won't mind as much.
ReplyDeleteThis was definitely a smart move from a political standpoint. Yeah, it's a bit presumptuous for him to be taking shots at Obama already. But, is definitely a good move going into the primaries.
ReplyDeleteThis is basically an act to sway the republican voters with little understanding of the actual politics at hand. By taking shots at Obama, Romney is pretty much simplifying the actual problems the country faces, and giving voters some a "rallying cry" as jake said. Sadly, this simplification action will probably get him a few hundred more votes.
Romney needs to keep moving forward to keep winning. If he focuses on the wins that he has attained, and not the ones that he needs to get, then he could always fall out of the Republican eyes as Gingrich did. If the other candidates keep their eyes on the prize, then they may still have a chance yet.
ReplyDeleteWhen watching the speech, I thought to myself "it's about time". Before this victory speech, he was unable to fire up about anyone. His campaign manager must have said something to him, because in this speech he also seemed more conservative than ever. Smart move, considering he is now moving in towards a more conservative state, South Carolina. Romney deserves to be feeling good though, considering he is about to add another tally in the win column.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the heads of the political parties have more power over the choice of candidates than we previously thought. So far Romney's challengers have risen and fallen. As Romney has gained support though he has cost himself some electability. As Garrett said, when he becomes more conservative he is jeopardizing his overall electability with the general public.
ReplyDeleteAs Joe said, Romney's challengers have risen and then fallen. But if Romney does become more conservative, he's going to risk losing votes from the general public, but he will get more votes from the southern states. Romney's action shows that he is more heated about the election now than he was before, and that's probably going to get him more votes.
ReplyDeleteSmart move on Romney's part with the victory speech, focusing on Obama. Downing Obama the way Romney did will only work more in his favor so telling the audience in his victory speech that the current president of our nation has failed to live up to his big promises will boost support for Romney. Though nothing is over until the fat lady sings I think Romney has safely tucked this away and is just going with the motions now.

ReplyDelete"Make sure 2012 is the year [Obama] runs out of time.”. Well Said Mitt. Well Said. Thats What I like to hear. Although like Aidan said it being a bit early for Romney to be taking shots at Obama. Not a huge surprise that Romney swept away with New Hampshire. "Momentum" as Fred Ditz said is what must carry Romney further. Hopefully, South Carolina won't turn out as close as Iowa. The man's got confidence. Let's just hope he doesn't screw it up.
ReplyDeleteIt was smart of Romney to address Obama in his victory speech because he gained more Republican support by bashing Obama and his presidential term. It is unfair for Romney to call out Obama on the number of unemployed because the unemployment rate was worse before Obama became president, that does not mean that people will notice. Romney's speech made him seem more conservative than he really is simply because he was ripping on Obama. I do not think it is fair, but I do think it was smart.
