Mitt wins Florida primary
Romney got a big W tonight in the Florida primary defeating Gingrich by 15% . Romney has now regained his dominate position in the Republican primary, and now looks to pick up momentum and steam roll his way into the presidential election.

A 14 percentage point victory. Go Mitt. As Santorum said "the Anti-mitt" approach didn't exactly turn out so well. i was completely unaware that Gingrich was pouring so little money into his campaigning as compared to Romney. The Free attention he receives from the media I guess is good enough for him. Gingrich may have stolen one from Romney but Romney is hungry to eat up the remaining stops.
ReplyDeleteI think we all know a major factor in the victory of Florida was Mitt's God given talent of singing. Gingrich better crank it up a notch instead of just holding a sign saying "46 states to go".
With Romney's big win it is starting to look like he will be the one on top. He won by over 15%, and sense its a winner takes all it doesn't really matter, but he won by a significant amount, and he gets all 50 delegates from Florida. This is a huge swing in Romney's direction and really solidifies him as the top dog.
ReplyDeleteThis was a huge win for Romney. Gingrich had tons of momentum after winning big in South Carolina, but this one put Romney back on top. Romney seems to be moving father and father ahead. Gingrich really needs to step up his game before he finds himself in too big a hole to get out of
ReplyDeleteI think the results in Florida will be more indicative of presidential electability than the other states. Florida is very diverse (southerners, retirees, hispanics) and it's difficult to form large coalitions of voters. South Carolina, Iowa and New Hampshire are all fairly monolithic, so winning those states doesn't necessarily mean much come general election time. That Mitt Romney won Florida is proof that the other candidates have less broad appeal, only amongst very specific niches.
ReplyDeleteThis win in Florida is a big thing for Romney. I also agree with Jake, this win in FL is an indicator for how the presidential election will go. Gingrich certainly needs to step up his game if he wants to have any chance anymore, because this is a huge turn in Romney's direction.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jake here. There's a reason that no president has captured the presidential nomination without winning Florida. Although the race isnt by any means over, I can't see Romney not winning. Yes, Santorum and Newt lead a couple states, but Romney getting delegates from Florida really sets him above the rest.
ReplyDeleteThough I wasn't shocked that Romney won by 14%, I was worried about it. As Jake said, Florida is a very diverse state and winning by that much will better represent how the general election will go. I don't want Romney to into the general election because he will have a better chance at winning than Gingrich would. If Gingrich moves on, he won't have a chance to win over the general public.
ReplyDeleteEven after coming off of South Carolina Gingrich still lost by 15% which is a clear indicator that something needs to change and fast. Gingrich will lose ground as well, not many people or organizations want to donate money towards a candidate that looks like they're about to lose. Romney is looking good right now, and it is becoming clearer who the Republican candidate is going to be.
ReplyDeletePeople have been criticizing Romney for using a lot of negative ads. I think that people should just accept the fact that Romney is very rich and he has no problem spending a ton of money on his campaign ads. However, the negativity is rightfully being criticized. This win was huge for Romney though, Gingrich was projected to do well in the southeast and Romney dominated this primary winning by double digits. I think he'll start winning state after state over the next few months.
ReplyDeleteRomney almost got the majority of the votes in the primary, which indicates that he is tooting some peoples' horns correctly in his political campaign. Romney is looking pretty good right now after this large margin of victory. It will be interesting to (hopefully) see Romney go up against Obama in the upcoming presidential election.
