Why Romney Blew It
This article describes Romney's performance during last Saturday's Republican Debate. According to the author, Romney is dropping in the polls because he is too conservative with his political style. The author says that Romney is too mechanical and is losing voters because he's having trouble connecting with Americans. I think that this article makes a pretty goo point. This is the exact reason why Herman Cain did so well early. He was a little unconventional and Americans liked it. Mitt Romney might need to change his approach if he wants to seal his nomination. #bigred

Wow! Very interesting! Debate analysis by a debate coach. I have never seen this before, but obviously this guy has good insight into debate strategy. His observations are spot-on, and it will continue to be very interesting to watch Romney try not to lose the nomination rather than make a strong case to win it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that if Romney doesn't change up his strategy things are going to stay the same. #Switchitup #PutTebowIn His opportunities to fire away at others were wasted. In addition his softball question was purely answered incorrectly. Perhaps that rough conservative talk republicans are looking for needs to start flowing out of Romney's mouth instead of Gingrich's. The man has to speak with a more confident tone that strongly supports what he believes instead of just trying to "stay in the race" with the same starting lineup of strategy to use as a guide in a debate.
ReplyDeleteThe analogical approach of this article was really interesting because it really showed that the voters are looking for "tough conservative talk and someone who can take the fight to Obama." I agree, that Romney really needs to change it up a bit in order to regain any sort of hope. Yeah, he didn't mess up at all during this debate, but he didn't make any lasting effects or impressions on voters... certainly not a good approach just months before the Republican candidate is chosen.
ReplyDeleteRomney is not debating to win because he doesn't know how to. He appears to have no convictions, no opinions, and only one objective: to get elected. Mitt Romney is never going to win anything because he has nothing to offer. The only way he was ever going to get nominated or elected is if he backed in. I don't think Romney blew anything. He's just staying within himself. If Gingrich doesn't screw up, he'll win. But based on his checkered political record, the chances of that happening are slim, and when it does, Romney will be waiting, because he still will not have lost.
ReplyDeleteMitt Romney is a great guy and all, but he just doesn't see that he's too far behind to mess around. He thinks that he can coast his way into the front like he did when everyone else made mistakes. Romney needs to see that even if Gingrich makes mistakes, they have to be major because his lead is so large.
ReplyDeleteI think most campaigners debate in order to not lose the worst...I think that debates are made to highlight the biggest morons who have no clue what they are talking about---Rick Perry was finally highlighted by the public a few weeks ago. I think that Romney's approach is the wimpy approach to a campaign and I think that the public realized that. I do not think that our country is in the right position to have a wimpy president.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jake K; these debates are designed to weed out the obviously weak opponents and leave only the strong candidates left. Romney seemed like a stronger candidate but, like Jake D said, it's like Romney's just in the election to win it. He ran for election because he looks good on paper and he has a good leader image but as far as I know, that's all he's got. If he doesn't start using actual strategy and showing that he cares about leading the country during the next debate, he's going to get tossed.
ReplyDeleteThis is why most staunch Republicans are not happy with Romney. He isn't being forward enough, and that is why Newt is surging, because he is whipping out some sass in the debates. Romney isn't being impressive enough, and he is ultimately the "safe" choice. However, it is quite possible that he is doing this so if/when he is nominated as the Republican nominee, he doesnt seem to staunchy. I don't believe he has blown it though, only because he is the most electable nominee, and people will soon realize that Newt will not be able to beat Brobama.

ReplyDeletei'll have to agree most with what Mr. Day has posted previously. Romney's fight for election appears to be just that. With no real plan, offensively or defensively, as shown by this recent meeting he's drifting around trying to hang on.
ReplyDeleteIf he has any strong points, he appears to be the least 'crazy' republican candidate. the knight in shining armor the GOP is looking for isn't going to be able to stand up to the incumbent as the party is currently showing which of it's multiple heads is the ugliest, who also happen to be running for candidacy. playing the more moderate role instead of the heavyset guns blazing approach may change the ballgame around, if of course the republicans can make such a change.
I agree with the editor of the article. Over the course of the primary election you have to change your tactics, how you present yourself in a debate. Rommney is simply in my opinion playing it too safe. He needs to debate with some fire i guess you could say. He needed bet in all of his chips in his last debate. At this point I think its too late for Rommney to pull out the W.
