Once again showing that a persons sexuality CLEARLY interferes with their ability to assist and operate on political and civilian levels, Mayor Janice Daniels decided that her opinion was worthy of being posted on Facebook. The recent find has Michigan citizens, as well as New York, the state in which the comment was in remark to, enraged.
It appears that we still have a portion of the country behind in the times when it comes to judging others. firstly, to judge is to leave oneself open for criticism, which Daniels has more than certainly done so. Second off, I think that snide remarks of another state that you're not even from is a little over the line.
Did I add that Daniels was elected last month into the Tea Party? Where's a good stereotype when you need one?

Thank you Mayor for showing your love for "queers". And your apology deserves an Oscar. "I think you should look to me for the admirable qualities that you might find in me" Slip of the tongue. She was caught red handed and yet when she was told to put her hands up she began babbling insincerely. I think that this mayor doesn't stand a chance getting re-elected. If you're of her level of authority and you feel you can express your views freely on a subject such as that, keep it G-Rated. Facebook isn't Twitter. She shouldn't have been expression that on Facebook. The amount of people affected by her gay slur, should make her realize she has to be smarter. #Janisisabullychant
ReplyDeleteMayor Daniels' comment itself pretty asinine to begin with, aside from the fact that she posted it on her Facebook. It is yet another example of social networking posing problems for over-opinionated celebrities/ politicians. Yet, Daniels' response to her actions was even worse. When someone makes such an offensive "slip-up" they should just admit their wrongdoings, not ask for people to see their "positive qualities."
ReplyDeleteThis is just another example where people have failed to realize the impact social media has on our society and this elected official--a tea party member(meaning she's slightly crazy)--did not watch what she said. Her callous remarks show how incapable of leading she is. The apology of the mayor is also insincere and not worth the press coverage it received. wow.
ReplyDeleteI actually cringed a little at her apology because her apathy was so overwhelming. That tweet would have been wildly inappropriate if anybody said it but somebody who is supposed to be leading and representing an entire city shouldn't be tweeting anything except updates on policies and twitpics of her kissing babies. Whatever opinions Mayor Daniels has on gay rights and equality for marriage are her own and she should keep them to herself.
ReplyDeleteDaniels' comment literally made me shake my head...How someone at such a level of power thinks she can get away with posting a comment like that is just ridiculous, and then her apology on top of that? It wasn't even an apology. People really need to watch what they say, because it can always come back to haunt you.
ReplyDeleteThis woman has no idea what she did wrong. I don't think she was actually sorry, but instead wanted to move on from this and to try and get votes back for her next election. The problem with that is that she more than likely has no shot at another election. Comments like the one that she made shouldn't be made at all in an America that believes in freedom for all. This woman needs to grow up and realize that times have changed, and that in most places, homosexuality is accepted. She needs to get out more often, perhaps to Nate Emanuel's home country, Canada, and see how homosexuality does not affect anything. I also want to know if she was alright with the other states that legalized gay marriage, or if she just is upset with New York.
ReplyDeleteThis was an asinine and ignorant thing for anyone to say, especially a mayor. The post seemed like something a teenage girl would write about. Her apology was half hearted, and you could tell that she did not feel sorry. People must realize that anything said on the internet cannot be taken back. I think this this whole scandal is shameful.
ReplyDeleteSo this woman is aware that she holds a public office right? Even kids in high school would think twice before posting that on facebook. There's no way she deserves to remain in office no matter how much she apologizes (which wasn't even good). People always talk about how you shouldn't put things on the internet unless you would be comfortable showing it to your parents. One would think that the Mayor of Michigan would know better.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what we were talking about in class. That the politicians don't like to speak in public for fear of a "slip of the tongue". However this "slip of the tongue" is too big of a slip of the tongue, and I think it represents her views of the gay community. Someone with that strong of a view should not be able to be in office for their laws and regulations would be very biased.
ReplyDeleteShe never even said sorry... she didn't even imply that she was sorry. she just basically said just look at my better qualities. I don't even understand why she would make a comment like that. That was an extremely racists comment and she meant what she said. Like guy's at school every where will joke around with there friends when they do something weird and jokingly say "dude you're so gay" that's between you and you're friend, just you two with no harm intended. But as to why this person at such a high level of power where people look up to her would post something like that on her facebook is beyond me.
