House Republicans Reject Extending Tax Cut
The House Republicans rejected a bill passed by the Senate that would extend the payroll tax cuts another two months. While explaining why, the House Republicans claimed it was "a deeply inadequate half measure that represented the old ways of Congress." How about some cooperation between the parties, like in the old ways of Congress? This economic uncertainty is troubling, and if no solution is found, then payroll taxes will be raised 2% which is roughly an average annual increase of $1000.

After reading this article for some reason… the word #lazy comes to mind. These last days should't be wasted as said. An agreement/conclusion must happen soon, people are scared right now and Obama sees that. Some people of authority better get their buts in some chairs and resolve this conflict. I can understand the 2 month extension of the tax cut..before settling to a conclusion however i've said it once and i'll say it again. #reachaconclusion. This isn't something to be messing around with.
ReplyDeleteAt least now it has been passed, but I was getting many angry tweets from the obama administration during the time that it wasn't, and so I checked it out then. I am glad that it finally was chosen to be put in place because it will benefit many lower class people that have a rough time as it is. This tax cut may only be for a short time period, but it does give the people a chance to keep some money around the holiday season.
ReplyDeleteThis is most absurd. Liam's right about this being a serious issue, Washington should not be taking this lightly. It's time the Republicans and Democrats put aside some of their differences and got something done. This was the perfect time for the majority Republican House of Representatives to show that they were willing to compromise. Someone's got to be the "bigger man" here or else our country is going to continue to be stuck in this stalemate.
ReplyDeleteyou know that rejecting this bill is a mistake when John Mcain even says that the bill payroll tax cut must stay in affect. Also, this was a rare occasion that both the majority of Republican and Democratic party actually agree on something, so why this was not passed is beyond me. Both parties must settle there differences and start getting shit done.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alex when he said tat someone has to be the "bigger man". Our country is in a time of dire need, and the Senate and House are unable to make any compromises. I think that it is going to be hard to implement the change that our country needs if members of the government continue to be stubborn.
