Hillary and Jeb Bush in Spotlight

This article talks about how former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and Jeb Bush, brother of former President George W. Bush both spoke in Dallas, which is where the dedication of the President George W. Bush Presidential Center is going to be dedicated tomorrow. It then talks about how both Clinton and Bush are potential 2016 presidential candidates. Also, many people have been talking about the legacy of the Bush presidency. He has had some of the highest approval ratings (right after 9/11) and lowest approval ratings (towards the end of his presidency).

Personally, I think that it is too early to be talking about the next presidential election. At least it should be too early. I also think that this dedication is not getting the attention that it normal would due to the Boston Bombings.  This will be a very rare occasion because President Barack Obama and all four living former presidents (Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush) will be in attendance.

Do you think it is too early to be discussing the next presidential election? What are your views about the Bush presidency?

  1. I think every election begins to early. The majority of politicians' time should be spent working on behalf of the people, not campaigning. I must say, the idea of Hillary as president seems potentially great, in my opinion...

  2. This is WAY too early to be talking about the next presidential election. We literally just re-elected President Obama in September...people need to stop rushing things. I also think Jeb deserves a chance. I am not too fond of what George W. Bush did to our country, but I am willing to see what Jeb Bush has to say about certain issues.

  3. I'm certain Bush Jr will go down as one of the worst president's in history. Jeb is smarter, but that's not saying much, and his potential candidacy will always be besmirched by the legacy of his brother. Similar to Jeb, Hilary's candidacy is associated with Bill Clinton's presidency, but Bill's (disregarding the sex scandal) was during a period of great prosperity in America

  4. They never stop talking about the next election, so I usually just accept it. I don't see how Jeb Bush will be able to have a successful election given his last name. Although he's not George W. Bush the public will find it extremely difficult to separate him from George W. Bush. There's not much love for George. I think Jeb just has a ridiculously difficult uphill battle.

  5. I agree that preparation for the next president and really any elected position begins far too early, but with the way that our government is, I think that this is just how it always will be. People tend to go with names that they know and in order to have a name that is known around the country, candidates have to start early. I think that associations made with both names with be both beneficial and detrimental but for me personally, I would kind of just like to see some new faces. Name recognition can really go either way.

  7. In my opinion, it is too early to be talking about the next presidential candidates, but I doubt that will change. As for Jeb, I think the name recognition will be a struggle for him to garner support; whereas, for Hilary it may play in her favor. Who knows.

  8. I agree with Lauren. Way to early to be discussing the next presidential candidates. The country has far more important things to worry about. Name recognition could play in either direction for Jeb but name recognition for Hilary will most likely stay positive.

  9. I agree that it is too early to be discussing the next presidential candidates, but it is inevitable and people are going to continue discussing that. I agree with Nora that with Jeb's last name it might not be a good thing for him because people will be comparing him to George Bush and what he did during his presidency.

  10. Yeah it's definitely too early to be discussing the next election, but I'm use to it because it seems that there are always political campaigning everywhere. Personally, I don't think that either Bush or Clinton would be ideal candidates. I would like to see someone fresh with new ideas and a new approach.
