Bomb Details Emerge in Boston Case

Bomb Details Emerge in Boston Case

This article dicusses the tragic events that occurred on Monday at the Boston Marathon. Several bombs went off in the crowd near the finish line during the Boston Marathon, killing 3 so far and injuring more than 170 people. The bombs responsible for this tragedy were rigged  to shoot sharp bits of shrapnel into anyone within reach of their blast. They were filled with nails, ball bearings, and black powder. So far no one has been arrested for this crime, but police are determined on finding the individual or individuals responsible.

I think that the most disturbing part of this bombing is the fact that these bombs were specifically  designed to cause harm. These weren't just random bombs put together, they were meticuloulsy constructed to cause severe damage. So many people lost limbs because of the excessive amount of shrapnel. This to me is the worst kind of attack. This type of violence is a horrific and should never happen, but I'm glad to see that everyone is working together and helping Boston in their time of need.

  1. I am so happy that the police are determined to find the culprit because not only do those people deserve to be brought to justice: If the police find the culprit, they will not be able to harm other people in other states bordering Massachusetts as well. I feel terrible for the people that were hurt in this attack and they were obviously placed there, as Jackie said, for a purpose to harm people. Whoever placed the bomb knew that the Boston Marathon was going to occur and wanted to hurt hurt so many people. I never understand why people can be as twisted as to do something like that.

  2. I've heard a lot of speculation that this was a conspiracy from the government- none supporting their claims. People have also said that it didn't matter that people died from this massacre. The way I see it, a life is a life no matter if it's a fetus, actually living, or dead. There are people now mourning over the loss of a loved one, and though we couldn't prevent an attack like this, we need to stick together and help and support those in mourning.

  3. I am glad they tracked these monsters down. People who only create suffering like this do not deserve to be in any type of world. Hopefully due justice will be served to the one they captured alive.

  5. I wonder why the one guy ran his brother over with the car. Maybe he was just worried that he would confess or something to the police. I feel like the one they caught alive was probably just following his brother. I can't imagine many 19 year olds coming up and executing something like this.

  6. This is a very complicated event that will take a long time for us so know the truth. I think the most important thing is for people not to draw any conclusions too soon. When people are in fear, they tend to think and act not as rationally as they usually would. For example, people are saying they did this for Islam. As of now, there is no evidence to suggest that. Some are saying it definitely was and other are saying it defiantly was not. The truth is that we just don’t know. It is also important to remember that in these situations there are not Democrats or Republicans, just Americans. I hope that politics does not get in the way of finding and punishing those involved, or with preventing us from preventing these types of events from happening in the future.

  7. This will be interesting to see play out as the remaining living suspect recovers from his injuries. I saw he had a vanity plate on his BMW that read "Terrorist #1". That's always comforting. With something like that it sways me to think it was the doings of a terrorist group; we'll have to wait and see.

  8. I find it extremely disconcerting that you can easily find an Al Qaeda magazine with to-the-letter instructions on how to build a bomb from various household items on the Internet. What useful and beneficial things are you going to do with that information? We spend so much time and expense searching for the culprits of this tragedy and experience so much heartbreak reacting to it, yet we leave the instructions on how to do it up on the Web.

    1. Would you advocate censoring the web? How? Just curious.

  9. I do not think we will have be able to fully protect ourselves from the horrible acts of people like this. The bad guys have the advantage. I think John makes a good point, but that is an entirely different can of worms. Then you get in liberties with the internet and people will argue that their freedoms are being restricted...

  10. I agree with Lauren and John; it is so easy to figure out how to create bombs or weapons that can cause harm. It is increasingly difficult for the U.S. to resist terrorist attacks. It will be interesting to see how the U.S. will react to this tragedy and if any new legislation or policy will be implemented.

  11. I agree that it is sickening that these bombs were made to cause harm and they did. People were killed, people were hurt, and lives were changed forever because of these events. While it is extremely difficult to prevent terrorist attacks in the US without an ammount of knowledge, I think it will be interesting to see what the government and country will do in the future with these situations.
