Obama to Renew Drive for Cuts in Nuclear Arms

This article informs the reader of an idea President Obama proposed recently. President Obama boldly states that he plans on cutting the Nuclear weapons up to 1/3 of its size now. This proposal would theoretically create much more money for the nation, but like all issues, the opposite party desires something else. The Republicans opposed even modern cuts, but when Obama proposed cutting 1/3 of the weapons, Obama faced much discord. Many people are arguing that America needs all its warheads if they want to be protected and competitive in the 21st century.  I believe that a budget cut would be fine, especially in this era. I can not imagine a country attacking or invading the USA due to this cut. I also believe that we need the money as a nation as well.

  1. I agree with Jay. I feel that other countries feel like they need to compete with the United States in order to be "safe". If the United States cuts nuclear weapons, I feel like that would be great for our debt and getting money for the nation. I don't feel like other countries would attack us because of this. In a matter of fact, they may try to limit theirs (if everyone was nice, but not every leader is nice). I would hope that other countries would cut theirs, but even if we were attacked, other countries would back us up. It should be a good thing that we are cutting the nuclear power.

  2. The number of Nuclear warheads that the United States has is much greater then any other country in the world. Even if we did cut the spending by 1/3 we would still have more warheads then we would ever need. Nuclear weapons are the last resort in combat, the only time a bomb has ever needed to be used was on Japan when no one else in the world had the capability. Now a lot of countries have the capability and can retaliate if a bomb is ever used. So I don't see the United States using bombs anytime soon because the damage to everyone would be catastrophic.

  3. If war comes down to us using a nuclear bomb then we're all screwed let's be real here. We need the money, and our military is using other means in battle, so a slight cut to the nuclear budget wouldn't be the worst thing.

  4. I totally agree with the movement to cut our nuclear weapons. The U.S. has so many nuclear weapons that we can destroy the earth multiple times. Why? That just doesn't make sense to me. And it cost so much money to keep all of those weapons protected. I don't think that nuclear war should even be a topic of discussion. It is so scary and terrible, it is not just the economy, or a country, it is the existence of the whole world.

  5. The main reason we had all of these nukes was for looking intimidating during the cold war. That ended over twenty years ago, so what do we still have them for? The countries that wish us harm are having trouble creating one nuke. Just one. We will never need all of them for a retaliation strike and it's not like we're getting rid of all of them, we'll still have the one of the largest caches of nuclear arms in the world. Also, the money we'd save would help a lot during these times.

  6. This is absolutely ridiculous. There will never be a situation where we will have to blow up the world twenty times over. All this massive arsenal is doing is eating up our tax dollars in maintenance costs.

  7. The entire theory behind nukes is ridiculous. No sane man could actually start a nuclear war. There is just to much that would be lost. Nukes were meant to serve as a deterrence, there is no longer a reason for us to keep building them when we already have so many stockpiled as it is. Put the money towards a better use please Mr. President.

  8. I also agree that it is a bad idea to cut some of our weaponry and use that money for another purpose. I think that the best point that has been made is that we have enough nuclear weapons to destroy the earth over and over and over again. At that point, to me, it's just a competition. We will always need to be prepared because there are countries with access to these weapons that want to harm us, but the excess is just pointless and wasteful.

  9. Why would need weapons that would blow up the earth 20 times? It's just crazy and we would never have a situation like that. All the arsenal is doing is eating our tax money and that money can be used in a much better and useful way.
