Looming Cuts Spur Release of Illegal Immigrants
As we seem to be moving in a positive direction with some of the new policies coming into play regarding immigrants, unprecedented things are also occurring. Recently, a huge number of detainees from immigration detention centers around the country were released because of the looming budget cuts coming. While on supervised release, these detainees are low risk, and with their releases, will no longer be costing the government thousands of wasted dollars.

As much as I think this is a "good" thing, I really don't want illegal immigrants here to begin with. I feel mean saying this, but if you don't want to be a United States citizen and you are living here for 1+, get out...seriously. It isn't even that hard to be a United States citizen. Unless these illegal immigrants become citizens; I don't really want them here, but then again, I don't know too much about illegal immigrant stuff to begin with.
ReplyDeleteAubrey, they illegal immigrants that are here do want to become US citizens. Wy else would they be here? the problem is that there is no way for them to become U.S citizens. Yet. Oba has proposed a plan that allows many illegal immigrants, mainly including kids who have lived here their whole life, as well as adults if they learn English, pay taxes, pay a fine, and get in line behind all the other immigrants who want to come here legally.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone's going to be released under supervised release, I'd much rather it be illegal immigrants as opposed to gang members, or some even worse group of criminals.
ReplyDeleteAubrey, it's difficult for them to become citizens because A) it costs money B) they have zero to minimal education and C) many don't speak our language. How can you pass a test on the history of the United States when you have an elementary school grasp on education? You can't. I'm sure they want to become citizens like Sebastian pointed out. That's the whole reason they're here. The American dream.
I think immigration detention centers are a stupid idea to begin with. It costs the government a tremendous amount of money to keep people in prison and the US currently has the highest amount of prisoners and the highest rate of incarceration per capita in the world. A large number of these prisoners are there for petty drug crimes (and some not so petty drug crimes), but immigration detention centers rank among the most useless prisons as they are for people who pose no threat to society. It would be better for the country if they were helped through the path to citizenship instead of being deported. They would be likely to become low cost, hard working individuals if allowed to remain in society as opposed to costing the government money, sitting in detention centers.
ReplyDeleteI think Dan brings up a good point. Instead of being a drain on our tax dollars, these undocumented immigrants could help reduce our massive deficit. This is a no-brainer, and it's frightening that it takes a budget crisis for the government to make cost-cutting moves like this.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be much easier to put them through some type of class that would help them become citizens. That being said, this would also cost money as well. If they want to be U.S citizens as well, like many other people said they are uneducated and don't speak the language. It becomes a sensitive situation because deporting them and depriving of them of the American dream seems slightly hypocritical, but at the same time, if they become citizens they can disrupt the economy as well by taking jobs from other people. I don't like the idea of detention centers, but the idea of immigration should be handled carefully.
ReplyDeleteLike others said that this maybe be a good idea after all. Instead of being a burden on our tax dollars, these undocumented immigrants should and could help reduce the deficit. Instead of keeping these undocumented immigrants at detention centers, they could help us with the deficit.
