Obama may possibly sign an update to the "No Child Left Behind Act"
This controversial bill was signed by George W. Bush to allow the federal government to mandate certain expectations of schools around the countries. Mann politicians argued that the bill gave too much power to Washington and took away some of the freedom of state and local schools to decide their own education policy. Do you think that the bill to be signed by Obama called the "Every Student Succeeds Act" will improve or make worse the current education system requirements.

I think the Every Student Succeeds Act will improve the current education system. An overhaul of the No Child Left Behind Act was approved by the Senate by an 85 to 12 vote, so both Democrats and Republicans agree that the law needs to be updated. Democrats and Republicans rarely agree on anything, so I think this shows how important and necessary the Every Student Succeeds Act is. There will still be national education requirements, but the local and state governments will now have more freedom and control of their school systems, and education policies can be made more school/student specific.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Every Student Succeeds Act will improve the education system. The fact that the bill is bipartisan is extremely helpful. No Child Left Behind and Common Core needed to be addressed, and I think that Washington is finally starting to move in a better direction on education policy.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Every Student Succeeds Act will provide beneficial improvements to our education policy. Also the fact that there was an 85-12 vote on the overhaul of the bill shows that there is a step towards bipartisanship. I agree with Julia in that this bill will give more freedom to state and local governments on how they handle personal student situations.
ReplyDeleteEvery Student Succeeds Act seems like a positive replacement to the No Child Left Behind Act because the local governments and education systems can take hold of their programs. The law was passed under bipartisan vote, and if the Democratic Party and GOP are agreeing on a change, it's probably something that needs to be done.
ReplyDeleteI think that the act will improve general education in the United States. Education is too large to be managed by the federal government, and the requirements from No Child Left Behind are either too vague or too simple. Placing more power in the hands of state and local government should help to guarantee more specialized education. However, I am wary of states such as Texas and Oklahoma, who are known for distributing revisionist textbooks and refusing to teach evolution. I hope that the federal government will still require certain fundamentals to be taught.
ReplyDeleteThe Every Student Succeeds Act should improve the education system we have now. Placing more power in the hands of local and state governments will prove to be very beneficial in this case. The current education system should be handled by local governments-ones that know the districts and schools they are dealing with. The 85-12 vote is also reassuring as it seems the bill will be supported by many.
