Dee Snider to Trump: I may not take it anymore

Dee Snider, frontman of the heavy metal band Twisted Sister, also long time friend of Donald Trump from his show 'Celebrity Apprentice' gave permission to Trump allowing him to use Snider's song "We're Not Gonna Take It" to back his campaign.  However, in Trump's most recent GOP remarks especially the one regarding the ban of Muslim's in the US; Snider has began to regret his decision. Snider has regard Trump as someone completely different during his entire campaign, "My Donald Trump was a Democrat," he said. "My Donald Trump is pro-choice. My Donald Trump is what we call a Northeastern Republican, you know, fiscally conservative, socially liberal. But that's changing." Do you think Snider should no longer allow Trump to use his song? Has Trump gone to far with his remarks towards minorities during the campaign? Do you believe Trump was once the man that Snider claims he was before the race, or has he always been the way he presents himself today

  1. Trump has always been controversial. I do not think that we are seeing anything new from him. The change we are seeing is that Donald Trump now has constant media coverage of everything that he says. Miraculously, his inflammatory remarks have done little to hurt his campaign. Hopefully this will change when more moderate voters begin to come out for the primary elections.

  2. Snider shouldn't let Trump use his song if he doesn't want to. It's his song, so it's his property and he should be able to decide what people can do with it. I think Trump has always been more conservative, but the race has just put him in the spotlight and shown a lot about him. Trump has crossed the line many times with his comments on Mexicans and other minority groups

  3. In my opinion, Snider should not let Trump use his song. Trump has been controversial and nothing new is coming out of him. Donald Trump has contant coverage on social media and we see everything he says and his opinions on everything. His outrageous opinions and the things he says has done little damage on his campaign, surprisingly. I'm hoping this will change when moderate voters come out for the elections. Even though Trump has always been more conservative, the race has put him in the spotlight and shows more about what he is like. There have been many instances that Trump has crossed the line with his opinions and the things he says it's unbelievable.

  4. I think in terms of marketing, sales, and public opinion, it's not a good idea (from a business standpoint) to allow Trump to use your music, and in this case Snider's. If I were him I wouldn't have allowed it from the beginning because you really don't want your music tied up with ANY political candidate/party, especially one such as Trump. If you keep your music out of politics then you're financially more safe than having your song/music identified with any political party or int his case Trump, an extreme Republican which might turnoff Democratic music enthusiasts from Snider's music.

Trump has definitely taken his comments too far. He's supported by the far-right wing, but everyone else thinks he's crazy. He needs to tone it down or else he's going to alienate minorities and people who support minority rights (which is a vast majority and growing of the US).

I think Trump portrays an accentuated persona in the spotlight; look how much media attention he's getting! If he gave more moderate positions and remarks publicly, I doubt he'd be surging in (social and) media.

  5. I believe that Snider should not have allowed Trump to use his song in his campaign. So many things happen in election years and it is so unpredictable. Allowing Trump to use your song could either be a good thing (marketing, popularity increase, etc.) or a horrible thing (tied to Trump for the rest of the song's life, assumptions are made about Snider, etc.). There is no way of knowing what will happen. So, if I were Snider, no matter how well I knew Trump, I would not have let him use my song.

In my opinion, Trump has definitely taken it too far. No matter how extreme your opinions are, there is about a 1% chance that they will match Trump's. At this point, he has probably offended almost every single minority out there. He is like a child who is bullying the kids who are different and then not apologizing, except there isn't a parent or teacher there to stop him.

If Trump was ever a Democrat, even a conservative one, I would be completely shocked. From what I have seen, he is a very extreme Republican and has never shown any signs of being liberal in any way, socially or fiscally. I sincerely doubt that he was a serious Democrat, if ever a Democrat at all.

  6. While I think it was completely reasonable for Snider to allow Trump to use his song originally, I believe it should also be well within Snider's right to rescind the permission he gave, especially considering that the man to whom he gave his song to use was, in Snider's opinion, a completely different person than the one currently using his song.

I have no doubt that Trump's views have changed. He is a showman, through and through, and he knows that the more outlandish his claims are and the more divisive he is, the more air time he gets. More air time leads to more publicity which leads to higher polling. If anyone were able to personify "there's no such thing as bad publicity," it's Donald Trump.

Trump has gone too far in his comments towards Muslims and other minorities. But, like I said, that's the point. He and his staff know what they are doing and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't believe half the things he says. The sad thing is that there are people out there who follow what he says one hundred percent.

  7. Personally, I think that Snider absolutely has the right to tell Trump to stop using his song, and in fact if he himself so strongly disagrees with Trump's views then he should indeed do so, as the use of his song is helping to promote them. It depends on how adamantly he stands against Trump's statements, but it seems as if he will tell Trump to stop using his song, and rightfully so. Without a doubt in my mind Trump has gone too far, in fact several steps too far with his remarks towards minority groups. As Snider said, if you have white supremacist groups aligning themselves with you, that is a problem. He is making assertions that echo World War II in many ways, and it is honestly frightening that they seem to be gaining traction. I sincerely hope that eventually people will begin to see how awful these ideas are, and will hopefully quickly turn against them at that point. I also hope that some part of him doesn't believe what he is saying, and he is just attempting to get publicity. I honestly can't decide what to believe, as there is no way to be sure, but in either case it is scary to see how far these ideas have gotten him.
So far as being a different person now than he was before goes, I'm really not sure what to believe there either. It is very difficult to uncover what the truth is for someone who has so radically changed what he publicly holds true, however we can decide just that, he has certainly changed on the outside. However, it would be a very great shift of him as a person if he honestly changed all of his beliefs to match how he speaks now from what they presumably used to be, and it would be very extraordinary to see such a change over such a short period of time. This really does raise many questions, even more than there already are, and it is startlingly amazing how he has managed to withstand all of this buildup of questions around his fundamental plausibility as a candidate. In the future however it will be important to see how all of this hype surrounding Trump translates to votes, as I personally hope that people will not actually support such rash and cruel measures against minorities.

  8. As legal owner of the copyright of the song, Snider should be allowed to take back the use of the song. Trump and other candidates have been using songs throughout their campaigns without permission. This is illegal. This problem stems from the larger issue of musicians never being properly compensated for their music by record companies and music streaming sights... but that is a topic for another time.

As for Trump and his remarks, I am appalled at America for supporting such a racist, sexist creature. In my opinion, he represents a major problem and threat to America. I think Snider's claim that Trump has changed is possibly valid. There's a quote from Trump where he claims that if he were to ever run for president, he'd run as a Republican because they are dumb. Although I am unaware if the statement is real, it would only further Snider's cause. Trump is, in a way, an evil genius. He says what the right people want to hear so he can garner fame. Somehow all of his past bankruptcy and scandal has gone out the window. I will honestly be scared and frightened if he becomes our next president.
