This article states that Paul Ryan will try his best to become the next chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. This will give him a chance to have a strong say in tax and entitlement reforms. He has wanted this for a long time. You will also read some other people's thoughts and goals for Paul Ryan in this article. Enjoy it. Multiple times. Everyone.

  1. Even with the comments made by Stan Collender I still believe that this move by Paul Ryan is an attempt to build up his resume for a future run at the presidency. I believe this is just a stepping stone. I wish the article went over exactly how someone becomes the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. I also wonder why if he's the most popular republican in the house he doesn't just run for president in 2016?

  2. Despite the article saying that Ryan won't be running for the presidency in the coming election, I don't think that necessarily means he won't run some time in the future; after all, the article did say he's only 43 and will have plenty of other chances to run for president. There is one thing that confuses me a little bit about this, though. If Ryan does become the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, how does this help his case for president in the future? The answer to this may be pretty obvious, but it would be easier to figure out if the article explained a little bit more about what exactly the Ways and Means Committee is.

  3. I personally don't think Ryan should run for president in the 2016 election, but that doesn't mean he won't run some time in the near future. The Ways and Means Committee will be a good start if Ryan chooses to enhance his political career even more, and possibly run for president some day.

  4. I think that Ryan is considering his options strategically. If his goal is to become head of The Ways and Means Committee now, it doesn't mean that he one won't try to run for president in the future Past 2016. I think that being chairman would make him seem more credible candidate to rank and file republicans in future elections.

  5. This is really interesting. It makes me wonder if the budget compromise was really a compromise or just a ploy to get on both sides' good sides. I think that if he wants the job and is the best candidate for the job then he should absolutely get it. I think Republicans want Ryan to run for president but it seems to me that he has his sights set on this position at the Ways and Means committee.

  6. I think that because Ryan is still young he still has opportunities to run for president other than in this upcoming 2016 one. I don't know if looking to become the next chairman of the Ways and Means Committee will either hurt or help this possible ambition, however. Even though he is perhaps the most popular Republican in Congress, making deals with Democrats like the one he did to avoid a government shutdown left fellow Republicans mad. This job would hurt his popularity with his own side but help with the other.

  7. I think that becoming chairman is a strategic move for Ryan looking towards a run for the presidency. Ryan is already very well liked with conservative republicans, but in order to win the presidency Ryan would also need to appeal to moderates. If he could use examples of any "compromise" he made while chairman, this would be extremely helpful in a bid for the presidency.

  8. I think that although Ryan says he is not going to run in the 2016 presidential election, that does not mean he will not run in future elections. Like Casey said, he is still young and has many opportunities left. I think becoming chairman of the Ways and Means Committee will help him in the future if he decides to run especially if in doing so he can continue to make more compromises like the recent budget deal. This would help him gain the support of more moderate voters.

  9. Highlighting the compromise may be a tactic on his part, but whatever the case, if he keeps this up in office, why shouldn't he deserve it? Campaign strategies aren't necessarily corrupt, so if this compromise produces a positive change in American politics, I would want him to go for it. My guess, like a lot of people thought, is that he might go for it at some point, but not necessarily ASAP because he still has time to build up this “resume.”

  10. The article points out that if Ryan becomes the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee he probably won't run in 2016. I think that this is probably a good move for him in two ways. One, as the article mentions, it gives Ryan the opportunity to show that he is a deal maker. Two, it gives Ryan more time to distance himself from Romney. This way if he does decide to run for president at some point, he will be seen as an independent candidate (not an affiliate of Romney).

  11. If Ryan is indeed trying to become known as a "deal maker," then I would be happy to see him chair the Ways and Means committee. I don't see a problem with it. If he does get the chairman seat there is no way he would run for president in 2016. Assuming a position only to step down would be campaign suicide. You'd see advertisements everywhere stating that Ryan is a quitter. I also don't see a problem if he is doing this in hopes of running in a presidential election past 2016.

  12. I think Ryan's becoming the chairman of the Ways and Means committee is a strategic move on his part. Just because he's doing this, now, doesn't guarantee he won't run for president in election following 2016. Also, I agree with Kevin that the article could do a better job supplying information on what exactly the Ways and Means committee is.

  13. Paul Ryan is someone who is able to take comprehensive approaches to the many problems faced by politicians today. Although through this article I cannot ascertain what the Ways and Means committee is and it does under Ryan as the chairman. If he has stated the reason f or not running for the 2016 ballot i guarantee he will come back for the next run citing the work he has yet to do under the committee.

  14. I believe Paul Ryan is absolutely trying to become the chairman of Ways and Means Committee to advance him in his political career possibly for presidency one day. I'm not sure if he's ready for 2016 election and I can see himself setting himself up beautifully for the 2020 election even though it is a long ways down the road.

  15. I found that the article talked a lot about Paul Ryan's ambitions, but not a lot about his qualifications. A job a serious as the chairman of Ways and Means committee should have more financial experience. I would rather see an individual who is financially competent, like Mitt Romney, to be the chairman. Oh, and i would also like an individual who is not extremely partisan to control social security.

  16. He really annoys me, but it is sort of cool to see his story unfold. I think he'll be someone people remember, someone who can have some actual influence. But I really think that if he were to get much more power, it would be bad for most Americans.

  17. I think that Paul Ryan becoming the chairman of the Ways and Means committee would definitely be a strategic move on his part, however, I don't see him running in 2016, especially after coming off a defeat in 2012 with Mitt Romney. I think that this could be a good opportunity for Ryan to prove that he is capable of being a leader who can serve the American people (possibly in 2020?).
