Strident Anti-Obama Messages Flood Key Stone States

The article tells of derogatory ads being placed in Boynton Beach, Florida to attack President Obama. Some of the ads incorrectly accuse President Obama of being Muslim, and shows the President showing respect to the Saudi King. Also, television ads are airing that encourage people to vote for the Republican Party. The backbone of the TV ads is that socialism  shackled his native country. The hardcore Republicans are not stopping at ads to disqualify the President. Apparently, some Republicans created an offensive DVD that talks about how Obama is the love child of a Communist Loyalist, Franklin Marshall Davis, and Stanley Ann Dunham. These DVDs are to be distributed into battleground states. However, some focus groups have noted that the DVD holds dubious evidence. A viewer of the DVD was also quoted saying," But then it got to the part about the president's mother, ...... This is just something a bunch of crackpots put together." This quote shows the out-of-bounds nature of the film.

I strongly believe that some Republicans went a little over bored with the whole "disqualifying the president scheme". The ads are outrageous and obviously contorted for the benefit of the Republicans. Why would it ever be an option to show the president bowing to the Saudi King? Why would it be okay to show unnecessary information in a DVD about the President's personal life? I understand that the Republicans responsible want to support their own party by attacking the opposing party. However, I do not agree that these tactics are the way to execute the attacks. The methods are absurd.

  1. I agree with Jay. This is stupid. I mean, really, why would you make all of these ads and billboards with all of these images that obviously are hurtful to other people? I wouldn't vote for anyone if I saw this. That is just disrespectful on the Republican's part and I would honestly tell someone to take an ad down if it offended me that much.

As for the DVD, get over yourselves (I am talking about the Republicans). It really seems like they are responding to the SEAL movie coming out two days before election. It is silly. Leave the president alone, he has more stuff he needs to worry about.

  2. Though I do not support Obama at all and strongly identify with the Republican Party, I have to say that I think this is in appropriate. I always hate when any candidate, democrat or republican trashes their competition. However, I think it's important to remember that Romney isn't personally attacking Obama, but local organizations and special interest groups are the ones funding these ads. But I really don't think that's an excuse, no one should be attacking anyone else like that. However I think it’s interesting that Jay pointed out that the people making the ads are showing personal information about Obama, but people dig into presidential candidates’ live all the time, democrat or republican. There has been much criticism over Romney being Mormon. It’s not just the republicans to bash on opposing candidates.

  3. I don't mind making fun of politicians at all as long as it's in good nature like in SNL or the Colbert Report. That stuff almost makes up for the hundreds of ads people have to watch. But these attacks are just uncalled for. It's as if these people are writing hateful things about the leader of a country they are at war with. Did they forget that they are trying to accomplish the same goal of American prosperity and happiness? Ever since Obama's name hit the national stage, rumors about his false birth certificate and religion sprouted up quickly along with accusations by radical conservatives that he was a Communist. These remarks to someone with good intentions for this country, no matter who it is, would make anyone feel embarrassed to live among these people.

  4. I wonder who thought that the idea of the president bowing to the Saudi king is a sign of weakness or something offensive. It's just a sign of respect. Also I hate when people try to blame politicians for gas prices. Besides any embargoes or trade developments like what happened in 1979, the government can't do much to dictate gas prices. The president of the United States and the president of OPEC are two different people. I think the only reason campaigns attack the personal lives of their opponents now as opposed to earlier is because the information is more accessible. It's not a very noble strategy but I guess they'll do whatever it takes.

  5. There has always been this issue. Unfortunately no matter what we do there shall always be bigotry in the world. We already know that none of these things are true about Obama and these have been talked about just like Obama not "not being born in America" even when John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone which is not even a U.S territory. Also calling him a communist? What year are we in 1956? Also that line from the film is disgusting. I find it really embarrassing that these people would do this, and I do not even identify with the party! In fact if you ask me I pretty much hate the tea party at this rate for all the trouble it is stirring up. It is an election on who can run the country better, not who is white and not a Muslim. This might end up backfiring and really hurting the Republican effort.

  6. Honestly, can anyone say that they were surprised by this? It's sad to say, but these types of ads are a new trend. Everyone wants to bash their opponent. While especially in this case, it's extreme, false and just downright awful, both parties do things like this. Yes, as I just said this was an extreme case and it was ridiculous. However, Democrats have a ball bashing Mitt Romney and the rest of the party. At this point, people don't even pay attention to these things anymore. As Jay mentioned, someone stated "...this is just something a bunch of crackpots put together." Most people see political ads and either turn off the television or just don't pay any mind to it. All of that being said, this truly is embarrassing.

    1. Jamie, there is political bashing and then there is outright racism. For our country's sake I hope this is not a continuing trend. Crackpots or not you have to admit it's wrong.

  7. I wonder what everyone associated with the production of this DVD did when it was done. Pat each other on the back? He's the President. Have some respect for the office. There are tabloids, and then there's this. I do think that Nicolette makes a good point that Romney is not associating himself with anything mentioned in this article, and he shouldn't be wrongly blamed for it

I also never understand why the president is blamed for gas prices being too high. Hundreds of millions all around the world decide what the price of gas is by affecting supply and demand

    1. Also there is OPEC, the single worst monopoly on earth.

  8. All right, is this where we've gotten to? We're making absolutely ridiculous DVDs? The sad thing is I agree with Jamie in the fact that I'm not surprised by it at all. I don't think the everyday voter or citizen for that matter believes any of these ads or videos. The only people who do are the same people who keep stock piles of canned tomatoes for the end of the world.

  9. I am not actually surprised that this is happening. We have seen this type of actions before, most recently with the Tea Party. It really is just wrong. I cant think of a better work to describe it. Even if you do not agree with him, he is still he President of the United States, show some respect. The worse part of it that people are going to see this and believe it. These are more than just lies, in my opinion this is brainwashing. If you don't agree with what he is saying try try doing something productive instead of manipulating and brainwashing people.

John brings up a good point. The president has no control over gas prices. Sorry GOP, but he doesn't. There are so man factors that go into gas prices, including corporate america's greed. If he tried to lower gas prices, Republicans would call him a socialist and that he is taking over companies free will.

  10. I agree in that I'm not surprised at all. We've come to a point in politics where I feel like some people think it's okay to continually cross the line. There's a point where things just become outright disrespectful and I think bring down the professionalism that this campaign is meant to have (if that makes any sense). I sometimes feel people take "freedom of speech" too far. With our freedom, more people also need to consider that they should not be infringing on the freedoms of others or at least not trying to destroy their reputation.

  11. Most political ads are lies these days. I can't even watch the sort of ad that completely bashes a candidate using totally false information. Personally I think that it's disrespectful whether it be about a Democrat or Republican.

The Republicans can bash President Obama all they want he still won the 2008 and 2012 elections. The fact that he won bothe elections gives me faith in the people because it tells me that most people are able to look past all the hurtful things said. Like that he he wasn't born in the US even though it was proved by his birth certificate.
