Editing Bolsters Obama’s Role in SEALs Film
Here is another article for you guys, it is from The New York Times and talks about how a documentary on the assassination of Osama Bin Laden and SEAL Team Six will be released on November 4th on National Geographic. I think this is perfect for Obama, he could not have asked for a better time for that film to be released. The assassination of Osama Bin Laden is huge for Obama, considering people who are not even politically active know he is responsible for his removal, he gains a lot from more people talking about it. This will remind everyone what he did, along with showing him in action which many people do not get to see. This may even cause a small jump in the number of people voting for him which at this point in the election where it is neck and neck may be enough. On the topic of the director saying he did not intend for it to be political stunt it is just to perfect for Obama for me to believe it. Even if he is just trying to capitalize on the increased publicity of releasing it so soon to the election, the fact that it will be on Netfilix the next day is a red flag to me. Come on that soon after initial release, I think it is rather obvious he has some sort of political motive behind that date. Which is fine it is his film and he can do with it as he please's, I just don't think he can go around and say with a straight fact he did not intend for it to be political.

I feel as though there is a political motive, but it may also be an innocent film too. Obviously, it will get people's attention on what Obama has achieved, but I seriously doubt someone will say "Man, this film is amazing! I should go vote for Obama!" No, it just won't happen. Even if they did have a political incentive to the movie, it is a bit late for people to change their stances on what they already know about the candidates.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with Seamus though that the release for the movie is odd and I can see how people think it is a way to "swing" votes, but I am pretty sure the guy had to push back the release date numerous times. For it to be shown on November 4th may just be a coincidence, but I may be wrong.
People see it in black and white. It is either an innocent video or a political influential video. I see it as a video to show what happened that day. That's it. People who created the film wanted to take Mr. Obama out and even put Mitt Romney in. I just take it as it is and see it as an informational video.
Obama totally deserves credit when it comes to Bin Laden. There's no doubt there, but I couldn't careless what anybody says about them releasing the movie when they are to "take advantage of the fall schedule". The release (and entire movie maybe) is a political stunt if I've ever seen one. I would be able to look at this with a more open mind if the movie wasn't being backed by one of Obama's greatest contributors. To me it's like Bain Capital funding a movie about Mitt Romney and then people trying to say it has no political agenda. Releasing the movie just two days before the election is so obviously a stunt to bolster last minute votes for Obama from people on the fence (and easily swayed at that).
ReplyDeleteObama definitely deserves credit for the assassination of Bin Laden. I actually think that this will be a very interesting video and hope I get a chance to see it. I agree with Seamus. I don't think that there is anything wrong with using the video to promote Obama, but to say that it doesn't have anything to do with the election is kind of ridiculous. They wouldn't release it at the last minute before the election if they weren't trying to pick up some of the votes of undecided voters. Like I said, I don't have a problem with it, I just think it's funny that they're denying it.
ReplyDeleteThe article said that the director of this movies is affiliated with Michael Moore, the ultimate political movie maker, so there has to be a political motive. I think the main motivation for this movie is to make money, but it doesn't hurt Obama that it's coming out during the election season. Even the mention of the movie will remind people of Obama's foreign policy victory with the killing of Bin Laden. It would be pretty irresponsible to change your vote based on a movie though. Nobody could think that this would change the momentum of an election, so I believe the director is just making money like any other film maker while giving a good word for Obama.
ReplyDeleteIf anybody is still undecided by November 4th but then sees this movie and has a sudden realization about who to vote for, that is kind of sad. If you cannot look at the issues or see any of the endless coverage of this election before the week of it and you are swayed by a movie which makes brief mentions of the president, you should try to do a better job at being a responsible citizen. National Geographic probably realized when the release date of this movie was made that it was very close to the election, but I can't imagine them purposely placing it right there. Their first responsibility is as a television network so it's not in their best interest to mess with their entire scheduling to try to make a small political move. If anything this article gives it more political power since it brings attention to the time this movie is being released and gives it more publicity.
ReplyDeleteThere are just too many coincidences for this to not be politically motivated. However, no one is going to be taken by surprise and somehow "tricked" into voting for Obama because he or she watched a politically slanted movie, even so close to the election. It is up to us to judge the facts we perceive as true or not and no one will be forced to watch that movie. I honestly don't think this will make much of an impact anyway, everybody knows Obama ordered the assassination of Osama Bin Laden and people have already taken that into consideration when deciding who to vote for.
ReplyDeleteI am kinda with everyone else here when I say there is definitely a political motive. That being said Obama really chose the best thing. Do you want to vote for Romney or the Obama, the man who got Bin Laden. I think it maybe will swing some people in the middle or get some others to vote and while I do not support this kind of campaigning, it really is a brilliant move for Obama. Romney has nothing to compete with this, and if anything his couple of "oopsies" I will call them will probably add more steam to Obama's campaign.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't think that anyone seeing this movie will automatically change their mind and their vote. Sure, it might be an eye opener for certain people who are still on the fence, but it won't change everyone's minds overnight. However, saying that there is no political motive is complete nonsense. With all of the coincidences, I can't see this being a movie that just happened to have a release date right before the election. Although, I think it's safe to say that most people who have decided who they're going to vote for, have realized that Obama deserves credit for Bin Laden. I don't think the movie will make too much of a difference. This isn't the first political movie and it most certainly won't be the last.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the film will have any impact on decided voters, but it may sway undecided voters toward Obama. The film could possibly increase voter participation a little bit more, but it probably won't be a big enough impact to effect the election. Since, the film is going to be aired on November 4, almost everybody will probably watch, there is a slight possibility of higher vote participation. I found it I intresting in the article that the author says "Can a Movie Swing an Election?" I don't think such thing could ever happen or will happen this year, but there is always a possibility.
ReplyDeleteThe release of the film, or at least it would be for current President Obama. The film could potentially help the Obama Campaign, because Obama is credited with the killing of Osama. The modern era had proven that the entertainment business has a great influence on America. A film that is released before the election could motivate people to vote for Obama, or to just vote in general. However, the one pitfall of this film is that the film is coming out only a fews days before the election. I would believe that almost everyone will have a pretty clear vision of who they want as president.
ReplyDeleteI agree with John that there are too many coincidences. This movie definitely has political motivations behind it. Obama definitely deserves credit for Bin Laden's assassination and I think he has gotten that credit. These are those people who think Obama had nothing to do with it and is taking more credit that he deserves, but those people's minds are not going to change after this video. Especially since this seems to be so politically motivated. There are also so many documentaries about the assassination, and how big of a role Obama had. Also, it should be noted that this documentary is probably not going to be watched as people might think. I doubt this will help Obama in a notable change in the election.
ReplyDeleteJust like everyone else said, I definitely think the "coincidental" release date isn't that much of a coincidence. Like others have said, I don't think a movie with do much. In my opinion people that watch the movie and make a decision based on it, don't care much about politics and probably won't even vote anyway. Regardless, I can't wait to watch the movie. I really enjoy documentaries and seeing how things played out. I do not really think the Democratic party should be excited or Republican party be worried.I doubt it will help or hurt either side.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the release isn't coincidental. Taking out Bin Laden was a huge accomplishment for the president. I too agree with Lauren.I don't think that the documentary will affect the voters because people already know what he has done and seeing it shouldn't make a difference.
