Leaked Hillary Clinton Emails: Could Bernie Sanders Have Won Primary If Leak Occurred Earlier?
I think that while this is not as important to me as the other issues, I do think that it is quite important to some people who really did want Bernie initially. This could be very important to the current race, as I believe that if the choice was Bernie or Trump, the country would undoubtedly pick Bernie. People are not so trusting as of now in Hillary. On CNN just now I saw that Trump is 13 point up in Ohio with Married Women. If Trump can turn things around enough through diversion, no matter how distasteful that thought might be, he could bring a pretty damn close race.

Polls during the primary showed that Bernie has a better shot than Hillary at beating trump in the general election, which his dissatisfied supporters are using as a main argument. Though his defeat was frustrating, Bernie supporters absolutely need to shift support to Hillary.
ReplyDeleteCan you explain why they need to shift to Hillary?
DeleteCan you explain why they need to shift to Hillary?
DeleteI also think that if the choice was between Trump or Bernie the American people would choose Bernie. If Hilary's emails were released before she began campaigning to become president I think it would have made in hard for her to eventually run for president.
ReplyDeleteI agree that, had the leak occurred earlier, Hillary would have had a harder time beating Bernie and that Trump would lose to Bernie if Bernie was not defeated. However, I don't think that an excess of diversion will allow Trump to win the general election.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't understand why people act so surprised that a career politician has been deceptive. I certainly do not endorse the idea of political "outsiders" as superior alternatives, but politicians lie. That's just how it goes. Also, if conservatives paid any attention to the content of the emails, they would notice that a lot of Secretary Clinton's words demonstrate that she is not some socialist who wants to strangle the free market. Shouldn't her moderate viewpoints should be comforting to centrists?
ReplyDeleteIt is not surprising that Clinton's privates remarks are so different from her public remarks. It says in the video that the exposure of some of the emails probably won't effect the general election. I agree with this, after the video of trump was released it seems like many people are more focused on him, rather than the emails.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ryan; politicians are certainly not known as being honest people. They tell people what they want to hear, and say whatever makes them look good. As much as I would have personally loved for Bernie Sanders to be the Democratic nominee, I don't think that would have happened even if the emails were released during the primaries. Sanders' ideas are, unfortunately, considered to be too radical for many Americans, even within the Democratic Party.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that the leaked emails will make much of a difference in the presidential election, especially because of everything that Trump has done in comparison. I completely agree with Lauren; Sanders' ideas are too radical for many Americans. I too would have loved to see Sanders as the Democratic nominee, however these emails would not have made any difference.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that if the emails had been leaked earlier the final result of the Democratic Nomination process would have been different this year. The suspense hanging over the emails was already wearing off and Democratic voters just were not using it as a major deciding point. As an outsider, Samders faced serious challenges such as initial fundraising disadvantages, lack of airtime/ name recognition, closed primaries, and super delegates. Although I would have preferred to see him as the nominee, the emails would not have changed things. Additionally, there has yet to be any incriminating content found in the emails which would seriously affect the Clinton campaign at this stage in the process.
ReplyDeleteIt's clear that Hillary Clinton's stance of topics have changed, and sometimes depend on the group of people she is talking to, but the same can be said for nearly every politician--including her opponent, Donald Trump. I can't imagine anyone was shocked by any outrageous new information that surfaced with the release of her emails and if they were released sooner I doubt Bernie Sanders would have been the Democratic nominee.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to the candidates for this election, I feel like Sanders had a lot of support from people who didn't agree with his political views but considered him to be the most sane person. Sanders was very extreme with his ideals, but he is a less controversial candidate when compared to the amount of scandals Clinton and Trump have been caught up in. That being said, the DNC would've probably still nominated Clinton. There is outrage over her emails, but it is largely over shadowed with trump controversy.
ReplyDeleteExplain how his ideals are extreme?

DeleteIf these emails had been leaked during the primaries, it's hard for me to say if Bernie Sanders would have gotten the nomination over Hillary Clinton. Like many people have said, I love Bernie Sanders but his views are much too extreme for a lot of people. Even though he has very extreme views, Sanders is a pretty low-key guy and there aren't many scandals surrounding him as far as I know, but his extreme views would probably make it harder for republicans who don't like Trump to vote for him over Hillary perhaps. Some democrats would have had a hard time voting for him as well, so I'm not sure how he would have done. Now though, I don't think that the emails are going to make much of a differnce. Even though a lot of people are mad about Clinton's emails, it's hard to beat what has been going on with Trump lately.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I would say that Bernie would have won over Hillary if the emails were leaked earlier. I really liked Bernie as a candidate but as we touched on in class, Bernie was a registered independent until he registered to be a democrat due to wanting to run for president. It seems as though in general, the public would have voted for Hillary anyway because she has been a registered and devoted democrat for a very long time. As well, Bernie's ideas sounded great, but almost too great because he they almost didn't seem realistic. In my opinion, Hillary's ideas are more realistic and she is a good candidate, regardless of her email leaks.
ReplyDeleteI think that the email scandal may have had some impact on the Democratic nomination, but not as much as one may think. Clinton's emails were handled in a pretty subdued and low - key manner which made the fallout from the scandal minimal. The timing could have had an impact on the outcome of the nomination, but I still think it would have been Hillary. I do think that Bernie supporters are not happy with Clinton's nomination and that they may not be represented fairly in this election.
ReplyDeleteThere's really no way to tell how an earlier release of this information would've affected the campaigns, but I suspect it wouldn't really have made a difference. I think that Hillary Clinton would still have won the primary because there's limited justification to show that the e-mails are a make-or-break deal for voters.

ReplyDeleteIt's very difficult to tell how an earlier leak of these emails would have affected the Democratic primary. However, in the general election, if Bernie had won the primary, I think that he would have beaten Trump by a huge margin. There is none of the controversy surrounding him that there is Hillary, although his views are quite a bit more radical. Even so, I believe that ultimately, Hillary's more moderate viewpoints will prevail over Trump, even if the election will much closer than it would have been if Bernie had won in the primaries.
ReplyDeleteBro, he's not even that radical.
DeleteI agree with Ryan and Lauren. No one ever said politicians were honest, and you honestly can't expect any of them to be 100% truthful considering how many aspects there are to their jobs. If the emails were leaked prior to her campaign, Hillary would have a harder time, but ultimately she would not be set back much. There are other factors that out weight the emails and those would take dominance after the initial shock. I've personally always supported Clinton over Sanders, and even without the emails he wouldn't have been the nominee.
ReplyDeleteI believe a lot of people support Hillary because of how she supports many different groups. For example, she openly talks about her support for environmental groups, BLM, and other groups. People understand what she cares about and who she will support based on where she places her time and effort. These e-mails obviously take away from her credibility but the fact that she has helped these groups will ensure that they will back her up regardless of the emails.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not so sure how different the race would have turned out if the emails had leaked earlier. While it would have made people more hesitant just on the appearance of the event alone (I haven't read the contents of the emails), I still think that Hillary would have won over Bernie just based upon her campaign's general target audience. I would find it interesting to see how the election results would turn out if Bernie ended up the nominee over Hillary, and what kind of things Trump would have to target in his advertising, seeing as Bernie is a much harder personality to pick on (outside of his age).
ReplyDeleteI don't think this would've changed much. The emails that continued to come out about Hillary never held any weight past the headline. I do not believe this would have caused her to lose the primary; the party divide between the candidates was already set along those who would care about this and those who wouldn't.
ReplyDeleteWow, politicians say different things to super rich banks than they do to regular people! In other news, water is wet. I think Hillary's lies and scandals have been played up to the maximum because she's a woman. I'd love for every other Washington insider to release all of their emails to the public or have every action they've ever taken be scrutinized over and over. The emails have been Trump supporter's favorite talking point throughout the election, but what's actually in them? Just campaign strategies. Seriously, not groundbreaking stuff.
