4 Reasons Chris Christie Endorsed Donald Trump
Chris Christie's endorsement of Donald Trump came as an initial shock to many, but on a second glance it starts to make sense. This article goes on to describe several reasons why Christie would endorse Trump such as Christie being a political realist and wanting to be in the running for vice president. This endorsement has caused some backlash for Christie and prompted several articles describing Christie's "awkward" appearance while stumping for Trump. Do you think there are any other reasons for Christie endorsing Trump? How do you think a Trump/Christie White House would change the nature of American politics?

I think Christie is primarily endorsing Trump because he expects Trump to win the nomination, and if that happens, Christie wants Trump to choose him as his running mate. The article also mentioned that Christie hates Rubio and Cruz, and since Kasich might soon be out, that leaves Trump. I think a Trump / Christie White House would result in more aggressive politics - both candidates seem to have gotten to where they are now mostly by insulting and attacking their opponents. If that strategy works for them, the next presidential hopefuls will be more likely to resort to the same tactics. So, American politics would get even messier.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Christie is starting to see the likeliness of Trump receiving the nomination. The articles mentions that Christie and Trump pair well as angry politicians who want to create change. It's very likely Trump would consider Christie as a running mate due to his hatred towards Rubio. While the article stated Rubio as his main rival, we're seeing Cruz take rise. Kasich would never join Trump because his whole campaign has been an honest effort against him. Like Julia said, a Trump/Christie pairing would only result to even messier politics.

ReplyDeleteChristie figures, "If you can't beat 'em, join em." In this instance, if Christie can't be president, do everything possible to try and get a VP nod. A Trump/Christie White House would certainly have entertainment value at times, but would also further shift the GOP to the right. It would also cause thinking that resembles the thinking of pre-Civil Rights Act America. Believing that the best foreign policy with a bordering country that is not actively trying to destroy America is to build a wall is very backwards thinking.

ReplyDeleteChristie realizes the high chance of Trump winning and what's to make moves to increase his chance of being Trump's running mate. I think a Trump/ Christie White House would only increase the partisanship in congress.
I think the reasons for Christie's endorsement of Trump are obvious. Christie is power hungry; he has sought the presidential nomination twice and failed early both times. So, Christie is looking for an easier way to secure either a more satisfying or more powerful position than governor of New Jersey. He can't believe Trump has good ideas as he is considered a moderate Republican. Christie is simply an opportunist. A Trump/Christie white house would, honestly, be an embarrassment for the country.
ReplyDeleteI agree with a lot of aforementioned thoughts that because Trump is doing so well, Christie wants to be in the running for VP, and therefore is siding. I do also think that the personalities of Christie and Trump compare in their angry approaches to the current government and standout statements of aggression. They are both loud-mouthed, outspoken city men who would completely change the nature of US politics. We see it already in the debates and media- politics is turning into slander and material insults, instead of argument over policy or issues.
ReplyDeleteTwo angry east coast "bullies" would certainly have an effect on the white house and American political culture as a whole. Although he has lost the respect of many Christie has made a politically smart move, vying for the vice presidency. His political career at home is basically dead and this would be the best of a few outcomes he can have.
