Three big takeaways from Hillary Clinton's return to politics

This article details Hillary Clinton's return to the political spotlight on October 20th. The article begins with a video of Hillary Clinton endorsing Terry McAuliffe during his campaign for governor of Virginia. The author mentions Hillary Clinton being a potential presidential candidate in 2016. The rest of the article is then spent analyzing Hillary Clinton's speech. The author writes about Clinton's relaxed demeanor, her criticism of republicans, and her endorsement of McAuliffe.

  1. This was a very intriguing article. It is good that Hillary Clinton was "relaxed" in this situation. However, the real test will be whether or not she can act relaxed in a high pressure situation. I don't know if it is smart to start "jabbing" republicans so early, but it is her decision. "The Clinton appearance was straight out of McAuliffe's playbook from day one." This is very interesting and the Clintons could either hurt or help McAuliffe in the long run.

  2. It seems to me that this reinsertion of Hilary back into the world of politics is little more convenient then for her to be helping McAuliffe. With the upcoming primaries I believe that this is her attempt in bringing back her bid for the 2016 elections. This connection to McAuliffe and her added support to him is either good or bad for his chances, but with it being so early in his campaign it is hard to tell.

  3. I should start off by saying I am very much team Hillary!!! I had hoped that she would receive the nomination in 2008, and so I was very happy to hear the speculations that she would run again in 2016. It doesn't surprise me that she was relaxed durring her speech considering that she has a long background in politics.

  4. Back during 2008, I paid very little attention to politics and therefore the presidential race (it was middle school and obviously middle schoolers have more important issues on their minds.) So because Hillary Clinton has been inactive in the “thorny world of campaign politics” in the last few years, I don't really have much of an opinion her consideration to run yet. But being relaxed during speeches is always a nice appeal to the public, maybe if she keeps this up she can make it to the top. I'm looking forward to watching the next race as I learn more about her and U.S politics in general.

  5. Like Maddie I never really paid much attention to politics. During the 2008 election the only thing I could tell you was the names of the two people running. From the information in the article it sounds as if Hillary hasn't changed much since 2008, stating she "didn't shy away from taking a few shots at Republicans." It sounds to me the only significant difference was she was more relaxed. I intend to pay more attention to the upcoming elections, so hopefully I'll be able to relate and reflect more on this topic.

  6. I liked how this article analyzed Hilary Clinton's demeanor as well as what she said. I think this was a good start to what may become a bid for the 2016 presidential election. She presented a relaxed, confident front which will be key to continue as she moves to more high-profile events.

  7. This article made me really excited over the possibility of Hillary "considering a repeat bid for the White House in 2016." I think it's a good time for her to step back into the world of politics with appearances that are considered low-risk and safe. By doing this she can begin her gradual return to politics minus the extreme pressure of more high-risk situations that will arise in the coming years. Although like the most others on here I didn't pay as close attention to politics in 2008, I intend to closely watch and stay up to date now.

  8. I think Hilary was smart to have her first political appearance since 2008 be one where she felt extremely comfortable. By choosing to reenter the political scene in an environment where she could give a relaxed speech and focus mainly on women's issues, she has reminded the public of her poised and knowledgeable demeanor.

  9. I agree with Maddie, I am a political-naive. I knew very little about the elections in middle school, but this seems to be a very smart move for Hillary. She is easing back into the scene and I think that she will get a lot of support from women on both sides of the political spectrum with her current stance on issues that deal with women.

  10. Glad to hear Hillary may be re-enetering politics and possibly looking to run in the 2016 election. Seems as though she's picking up where she left off with her stance on women's rights, though I don't think it's really very risky for her to insult the republicans the way she did. It wasn't exactly a small party disagreement, it was a huge humiliating debacle for America, and something that needs to never happen again.

  11. Like most of the people here, back in 2008, I did not really pay all that much attention to politics. Because of this, I don't really know what to make of her potentially running for president in 2016. At this point, I guess I don't really have an opinion, and this article was not all that interesting, but it wasn't mind-blowing. So if she wants to run, then I guess this was a good "welcome-back", but I really have no opinion at this point.

  12. I personally love Hillary Clinton, and I also found this article very interesting. It's not surprising her demeanor was relaxed, for she is a pro in the political scene, and she seems to be off to a good start is she does choose to run in the 2016 election. Hillary is already a big name in the Democratic Party, and she would be a great candidate in the next presidential election.

  13. I agree with the many others who did not pay attention to politics in 2008. I don't really know much about Hillary Clinton, but I think that if she does plan on running in the 2016 election, her speaking on behalf of McAuliffe is a good transition back into politics.

  14. It's great to see Hilary Clinton put herself out there for possible nomination in the 2016 elections. But I think it is much too premature and she shouldn't be calling out Republicans this early. I know we campaign every year in America but currently her party is the incumbent in office so I think her time might be used more efficiently by doing her job she has right now an supporting Obama.

  15. Like many others have already stated, I did not follow the 2008 Presidential election very closely. I am aware, however, that Hillary Clinton is a prominent figure in American politics and every move she makes is acutely analyzed. If she chose to run in 2016, there is no doubt it would make the election all that more fascinating.

  16. I could honestly care less who Hillary decides to endorse, or what she does with her political future. Based on what I have observed from her time as Secretary of State, I would much prefer she give up on her zeal for more political power.

  17. I'm a little surprised that Hillary made an appearance only eight months after she decided to step out of the public eye. I would've thought that she would take a longer break from politics. I'm also surprised to hear her so relaxed when making allusions to running in 2016. Though I support Hillary, I think it's pretty easy to be critical of politicians when you don't have to see them every day.
