I Don't Know How I Feel About This Right Now.

Obama is sitting on the face on the matter of gay marriage. He fears to lose followers should he declare directly on one side. This is definitely a big standpoint for voters to base their views off of. As Pataki said.."American people deserve to know today"

  2. " Pataki's comments are one of the first signs that Republicans are eager to press Obama on the issue, even though Romney, like most Republicans, is not in favor of gay marriage. "

I don't think that gay marriage is a relatively new or important topic, the policy of one's intimacy should have no impact on their ability to contribute to society and their effectiveness as a person as a whole. Yes, Obama should have been more "distinct" in stance but Republicans need not be so narrow minded

  3. Governor Pataki makes a very good point. Trying to play politics is not a good idea, it will only hurt you. At the time the public was not clear on Obama's view point of gay marriage and like Pataki said, probably because he feared he would lose votes from both sides. Since then, Obama has made it official that he gives his full support to gay marriage. From a political point of view I believe this was the better path for Obama in terms of voters support because I think there are more Americans that support gay marriage than those who appose it.

    1. Although playing politics isnt a good idea, you can't argue that most choices that politicians make are mainly politically based. You can't say that the gaining voters didnt play a part in Obama's choice to support gay marriage. Yes, it might have also been personal belief and tied with his ideology, but it getting him votes certainly helped. In Washington, 90% of the decisions made are politically based.

  4. Yeah, Obama's decision to come out and support gay marriage was clearly political. In today's political world, it's nearly impossible to do anything that isn't going to have some effect on the opinions of perspective voters. This was definitely a big move for Obama because it probably changed the opinions of many voters-- both for and against him.

  5. Obama's decision to come out and say that he fully support gay marriage was definitely a good decision on his part. He's gaining a lot of support from voters today because there are a lot of people who support gay marriage. He's definitely gonna lose some votes but I think he's gonna gain more than he's gonna lose.

  6. obama decided to make a stand, and he's obviously going to lose votes, but the fact of the matter is he'll definitely receive more praise from this than he will get flak, because most of the people against gay marriage were already voting for the conservative side.
