Climate change is here, action needed now, says new White Horse report

Climate change has always been an issue that was pushed away in order to worry about in the future. This article talks about how the White House is going against that idea by explaining that the effects of climate change are already here and are just going to get worse. It states that while "most Americans believe human activities cause climate change, the issue is less important to the public than the economy and other topics." It's scary to think about what will happen if we continue to not make climate change a larger concern. Hopefully it doesn't take more disasters all over the United States to change the attitudes of the people that continuously think of the issue as not important enough to work on.

  1. Along with the article, the video at the beginning was actually really interesting and it did a great job of explaining the potential affects of climate change. It seems like rising sea levels are becoming a major problem already, and I can only imagine it getting worse the way the article discusses it. I really wouldn't wanna live in Miami right now, as it seems like they're already going to have to pay millions to repair the city; how much would it cost me to repair my home? Way too much. Climate change is becoming a problem that needs to be faced, not avoided, but I feel as though even if faced, we will only be able to slow down climate change at best, not reverse it.

  2. I agree with Kevin that climate change is an issue that needs to be faced. I think that we will finally see some changes in the coming year, because the affects of climate change are hitting people closer to home. Literally. Although, I do wonder how much regulation our economy can handle. If we over-regulate these smokestack industries I worry that we will be looking at higher levels of unemployment. I believe that these industries are central to our economy. We can't all perform services; we need manufacturing jobs as well.

  3. It's frightening to think how although we are aware that we humans are the cause of climate change, we still fail to persist to do anything about it. At the rate we are going, sooner than we think we will run out of nonrenewable resources and leave our planet destroyed. I know that myself personally tends to forget about the environment and how much we harm it, especially since we can't see direct effects. Individuals and the government need to act now to try to mend what we've already broken. Like Kevin said, we cannot change the damage we've already done, but we can stop producing more. We need to think about our nation's future.

  4. I would like to think that the white house's reports will bring about some last ditch panic induced reforms; but sadly I do not see that happening. People are just now beginning to talk about climate change as a real thing which could "potentially" cause damage. The truth is it's already causing damage! The facts on climate change have been there for well over a decade but no one cares. People keep talking about how "over-regulation" will hurt the economy and cost people their jobs. You know what else hurts the economy and cost people their jobs? Entire cities being underwater, more super snow storms, hurricanes and other natural disasters. As the report says these are not problems of tomorrow these are problems of today. We are living through the effects of climate change today, and yet there are still big political figures who pretend climate change does not exist.

  5. I think that Americans have a hard time visualizing the negative impacts of climate change. As humans, it is hard for us to think into the future that way. But those in politics now, are leaving this issue go for our generation to deal with in the coming years. I have the awful suspicion that nothing is really going to get done until something disastrous happens that will force us into making more environmentally friendly technology.
