Republicans seeking election or reelection have focused their campaign strategy on, mostly, President Obama's job, and Obamacare. They believe that Obamacare is a disaster, and they are not shy of hiding that to the public. I think this will be a challenge for Republicans running for office because of the growing number of democrats.

I definitely think that the Republicans run the risk of annoying voters if they continue to bank on bashing ObamaCare to win voters. Actually, I'm pretty sure people are already tired of hearing the Republicans bash it. In addition, I hope that by the time of the next major election, people will have come to see how beneficial the program is for millions of Americans. Finally, if/when people realize the benefits of ObamaCare outweigh the cons, the Republicans will have no major strategies left and their entire plan will backfire in their face.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Republicans wil definitely be winning seats this midterm election, as long as they don't over do it. It think they will be particularly effective in swing districts. Who knows, perhaps they can milk the whole Obama care act up until the next presidential election, though I'm sure they'll find other incriminating things as well. Hopefully the drop in numbers isn't catastrophic.
ReplyDeleteThe “trainwreck” that is Obamacare must be repealed at all costs. The Republican Party, in order to win, must stand strong and stand for what it truly believes in: a small government that is off the backs of the people. The Republican Party can win young people (and will win young people) if it does several things (as noted in Ted Cruz’s CPAC speech): emphasize the disaster that Obama and Obamacare are for the youth (after all: Obamacare has resulted in the cutting of many workers’ hours). Additionally, the Republican Party should appeal to some of the libertarian tendencies in young people (letting states decide on gay marriage and marijuana legalization) and an attack on the NSA program. As noted in Cruz’s speech, the two Republicans who really energized youth were Reagan and Ron Paul: both people who held strong to their beliefs.
ReplyDeleteThe Republicans are basing their campaign strategies on Obamacare at a very dangerous level. Like Emily said, once people really understand how many benefits are coming out of Obamacare, the Republicans will be in a very bad position. When the smoke clears around Obamacare and the real roots of the law become evident to everyone, approval rates will go up exponentially. Although it amuses me how the Republicans are so focused on Obamacare, they really need to move their attention to something else if they want to have any success in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think everybody's getting tired of hearing about Obamacare. The best way for the Republicans to win seats at the next midterms is to stop campaigning by bashing the other side. I'm sure if they explain their policies more and give the people hope they will win votes. It's only natural for the Republicans to win big in the next midterms. Obamacare has already been detrimental to the Democrats and they will pay their price in the next elections. Like Emily said, concentration on just Obamacare may turn off some voters.
ReplyDelete"Americans do not want to repeal the ACA and go back to the days when insurance companies had free rein over health care; they want it fixed and improved. But this Republican Congress is obsessed with a repeal that will force hardworking families into bankruptcy and let insurance companies deny care and drop coverage,"
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone in the Republican Party remember the atrocity that was our old system? I don't care about your objections to "Obamacare"; until it's half as bad as what came before it, a repeal, which would only revive the past, is a horrid idea.
Remember that polls tend only to show negative responses to "Obamacare", not "The Affordable Care Act." People don't like something campaigned to them as evil, a buzzword associated with negatives? And people are surprised? A majority of them don't actually know what it is, considering how much polling results change when given the formal name of the law, and they don't appreciate the true properties. This "issue" is a farce of social engineering. Fewer legitimate arguments against the whole have been made than petty complaints.
Regardless of the verity of their convictions, I expect rightward upheaval, come next election season. Rarely does the public love one party beyond two presidential terms.
It won't be for healthcare that they change. This is the sociology of politics.
Let's just hope that the victorious dont overthrow the law without just cause.
I agree completely with Emily Meyer. I really hope our country will realize how beneficial Obamacare can be. And the republican's bashing strategy is dumb. I have a hard time believing they will change many minds. Most people are sold on the idea, or they detest it, but I find it more likely that people will realize how good it is, than people deciding its bad.
ReplyDeleteI am sick and tired of the Republicans bashing Obamacare on a consistent basis and even going so far as basing their campaign around it. We get it, you're stubborn and do not like it. (I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like it Sam I Am--Cruz/Lecours). To use Obamacare as a base for the Republican campaign will have disastrous results for the party. People are annoyed of hearing about it. It is time for some original content.
ReplyDeleteI think Americans are tired of hearing about Obamacare and not being able to see the benefits. At the moment, we are hearing a lot of shallow talk about the program, and people have made their current opinions and won't change their minds until we actually see results. So for now, the Republicans will do well in the upcoming election because a lot of people are upset over Obamacare and want new officials, even though results are coming.
ReplyDeleteI am so sick of hearing Republicans bash Obamacare. I'm so tired of hearing that word that I will punch myself in the face if I hear it again. The Republicans should really take focus on something else for their campaign because if there are other people like me out there, I will completely tune out anything about the healthcare that will "doom us all". They just need to back off and chill, and maybe go back to bashing Obama's plan after they see the real results.
ReplyDeleteI think Democrats should stand by Obamacare. When it turns out that affordable health care is actually beneficial for our society and that it doesn't, in fact, bankrupt our economy, they should be able to say that they stuck by it the whole time. With the midterm elections coming up so soon, it might be too late for some Democrats, but in the long run I think the Affordable Care Act is something to continually support.
ReplyDeleteObamacare has passed, and I don't see it being repealed anytime soon. Maybe the Republicans can focus on more productive things in the future, instead of just bashing Obama for everything he does. Obamacare does have benefits, and to say otherwise is an obvious disregard of the law. People should be more open minded.
