Obamacare Hits Enrollment Goal

Obamacare has reached 7.1 million sign-ups. This number was the Obama administration's initial sign-up target. After a slow start, the sign-ups for the program have increased steadily as the website's initial problems have largely been fixed. The surge of sign-ups include a decent number of young people. President Obama called these sign-up numbers a victory for the program.

  1. Obamacare is one of the worst pieces of legislation ever crafted in the entirety of American history: it disincentives work, kills jobs, stifles religious liberty, and brings America one step closer to a single payer system. The saddest thing is that Obama is right: if the law goes into effect, it will become popular. It will be popular, however, because people will become dependent on the government for the health care subsidies and Medicaid expansion money. It should be popular on the merits of the law and not because it is “free money.”

    1. I was under the impression that one of the merits of the law was saving people money, Andrew.

It's not like it's a universal free healthcare law. Most of the reactionary complaints aren't even valid to MENTION.

It's passed. It's a law that many other sane, civilized nations exceed. And people want it. There's a sample, a need, everything you could want.

  2. I am very happy that the Obama administration proved all the naysayers wrong and enrolled over 7 million people to the Affordable Care Act. While I'm sure it was a fight to the finish, all of their hard work definitely paid off. I sincerely hope that people come to realize the great benefits that ObamaCare will come to terms because of the act. Also I'm tired of hearing the republicans bash it so it would be awesome if the democrats came out on top. It will definitely be interesting to see how this all plays out.

  3. I am happy that such a high amount of people signed up for Obamacare, and I think it's a good sign for the future of the program. Obama's statement "I don't get it. Why are folks working so hard for people not to have health insurance? Why are they so mad about the idea of people having health insurance?" sums up my entire opinion of the opposition to Obamacare. Eventually everyone will see the great impact that it will have on our nation.

  4. After four years of constant debate, Obamacare is finally finding solid ground. Meeting the enrollment goal is a huge win and is a sign of good things to come. Within the next few years, people will start to realize the benefits of nationalized health insurance. The Republicans will just find another thing to latch onto to critize the Democrats and the Democrats will do the same.

  5. It's a great thing that Obama and his team have met their sign up goal for Obamacare. When it comes to healthcare, atkeast from my perscective, the question is one of helping others. Is helping less fortunate people who couldn't normally afford healthcare more important than having extra money? In my opinion yes, but obviously, the program, and entitlement programs in general, are finacial strenuous on the national economy, as well as individuals. Overall though, I think helping others is worth it.

  6. I'm glad as well that Obamacare has reached its goal. I don't agree that it disincentives people from working. Some people have fallen upon hard times, due to reason that aren't there fault. Should these people suffer because jobs aren't being made for them to take? No, of course not. That is why Obamacare is a huge help in our nation.

  7. I'm very glad that Obamacare has reached its goal and has been dubbed a success. It is natural for people to be lack incentive once on a cheap healthcare program; however, the majority of these people who now lack incentive with healthcare lacked incentive in the first place. The one thing I have observed with most people is consistency. It is very hard to break habits; in my opinion, it is better to be able to ensure that in case of emergency, people can afford their health insurance bills.

  8. Reaching the goal is a major accomplishment for the Obama administration. The final surge at the end was to be expected because people are forced to make a decision instead of push it off until later. Also with the campaign giving Obamacare more visibility, people were more likely to sign up . Hopefully more young people will sign up in coming years to reduce people's qualms about cost.

  9. I think it's awesome that the Obama administration met their goal of 7 million sign ups. I agree with Ethan and DJ. This healthcare does not promote laziness. Ethan pointed out that the "lazy" people aren't lazy because of this new healthcare, they're lazy probably because they have been their whole lives. All in all, I'm puking at the amount of Obamacare articles I have read, but I'm glad to hear that it is having a good turnout so far.

  10. Republicans can talk all they want about why Obamacare is terrible legislation that "disincentives hard work," kills jobs, and basically destroys America, but I don't buy it. Are there nonpartisan experts that have shown how affordable health care is going to ruin our economy? I don't think so. The opposition to Obamacare is rooted solely in politics. The people who don't want it to work will do whatever they can do make that happen.

  11. I'm very happy Obamacare is beginning to thrive and grow. It is a good program, and I look forward to it growing in the future. Even if I did disagree with it or didn't like it, I would be glad that Obama is accomplishing work and that our citizens have access to public healthcare (instead of being a victim to private insurance). People spend so much time trying to find and keep health coverage that they are hindered by joining large companies or staying a full time student. What government-provided health care does is empower the entrepreneurs and innovators who drive the growth of our economy to actually do so, instead of having to worry about finding health insurance.
