Sarah Palin Endorses Donald Trump
Donald Trump has recieved an endorsement that could greatly increase his support in some conservative states. Sarah Palin, the 2008 GOP vice-presidential candidate, has endorsed Trump. This could lead to increased support for Donald Trump as we near the primaries. Palin's endorsement is the highest-profile backing of a republican candidate so far. Do you think Palin's endorsement will increase support for Trump? Will it have no affect? Could it even reduce support for Trump?

I think that this will probably momentarily increase Trump's support, but in the long run, I do not think that it will make that much of a difference. While this may be "big news" today, in the end, I do not think that it is possible that Donald Trump is the Republican nominee. He is far too controversial and has crossed so many lines that I can only hope that moderate Rupublicans will get out and vote in the primaries.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, this endorsement by Palin will temporarily increase support for Trump, but it won't last. I don't think that it will make that big of a difference. Even though some people ,at think this is breaking news, I still think Trump doesn't have a chance at being the Republican candidate. He is crazy at times and doesn't know when to keep certain things to himself. He crosses the line in my debates and he's way too controversial to be the Republican candidate. I Don't think Trump would be a good candiate, in my opnion. His endorsement from Palin will not have Trump ahead in the long run, because the support will die down and wouldn't make a difference.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I believe that this endorsement from Sarah Palin might increase his support for a few months, but it might even reduce his support in the end. Palin, like Trump, has been known to say some "out of the ordinary" comments as well, which if Trump makes it to the general election, may not be in his favor as he would need to appeal to the more moderate voters as well. The people who endorse candidates says a lot about them. For example, you wouldn't want Nixon to endorse you as after the Watergate Scandal, he was not trusted by the American people. Same logic here with Palin and Trump. How much do people trust Palin's judgement?
ReplyDeleteI agree with what has already been said. This will help Trump with getting the nomination but might hurt him in the general election. However, he could avoid it hurting him too much in the general election (assuming he gets there) by dropping Sarah Pailin and running with a moderate Vice Presidential candidate. It'll be interesting to see what he does if he makes it to general. Whether he'll give the Alaskan the cold shoulder or not down the road could mean the difference between success or failure for Trump.
ReplyDeleteI think an endorsement from Palin will increase his support in the primaries initially but potentially hurt him later on in his campaign. Palin has a bit of a reputation for many reasons, and not all of it good, and that negative image might feed into Trump's campaign. I feel like this is such big news because she's a well known Republican, and it's still too early to tell how this will affect things considering what their next move is.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone that Palin's endorsement for Trump will temporarily increase his support, but in the end I don't think it will really make a drastic difference for his campaign for the primaries. However, if he does make it to the general election, Palin could hurt Trump's campaign more than she helps.
ReplyDeleteI think that many people that many of the people who might have been influenced by Palin's endorsement of Trump have already been drawn to Trump. I think that any boost in the polls that coincides with Palin's endorsement is just as much as a result of increased airtime due to the endorsement as it is from the endorsement itself. Unlike others, I think that, if Trump gets the nomination, this endorsement will have very little effect, or will actually benefit him, especially if he goes up against Hillary Clinton. Having a woman on his side and campaigning for him certainly can't hurt Trump, someone who has been accused as being sexist.

ReplyDeleteI think Sarah Palin's endorsement will only cause a temporary increase in support for Trump. However, I think he is too radical to be a good Republican nominee for president. So, Palin's endorsement won't be helpful in later times. Also, the increase in support for Trump may not be as much as we may expect. The article stated that many people came to Palin's speech not because of her, but just because they supported Trump, so some people don't really even care about her endorsement.
ReplyDeleteAlong with the rest of the comments, I think that this endorsement will boost Trump's support, if only through the extra publicity, but it might boost it enough that he polls very well in Iowa come the primary, which then could help him to gain momentum as the rest of the primaries roll around. In turn that could the increase his chance of winning the nomination. However, I think that the increase will probably be pretty short lasting, and if it is sustained it will probably be small. Also, in a general election, as others have said, this might actually decrease his chances due to it lowering the extent to which people perceive him to be a political outsider.
ReplyDeleteAs we have learned, candidates in the primaries try to appeal more towards the more extremes of each political party. So it is not surprising to me that a rather controversial Republican is supporting Trump- a woman, too, because of the accusations that Trump is sexist. This may temporarily increase his chance, however he has already been leading in the Republican primary polls and I feel as though many people who were supporting Palin were already supporting Trump. Considering how he is virtually the laughingstock of the nation, and so many people are outspoken in their dislike for Trump, I don't know if he really has a chance at winning. If he does win the primary, then he will have to tone it down for the general election, and most Americans will not forget the rather extreme comments he made. While Palin's support may cause a temporary boost, it is all dependent on Trump's notorious commentary.
ReplyDeleteTo start this argument off it would wise to mention that Sarah Palins popularity isn’t what it was back in 2008. In fact I would stand to say that her own support has fallen drastically. I think trumps support comes from his actions and statements alone. It is undeniable that he is a presence and that he attracts people attention and interests. For these reasons I don’t believe this new supporter will have very much affect on Trump’s standings.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a plethora of clips of Palin speaking at the Trump rally and my mind is completely boggled as to why her support would aid Trump. In my opinion, she cam across as poorly spoken and unintelligent. I believe that Palin's current celebrity status is more like a Kardashian's than that of a politician's. She may be a reconizeable name, but the reason's her name is recognizable are questionable at best. Her families controversial spotlight has garnered her more attention than her political background as of recently. If anything, I'd expect her support to have little positive effect. I'd actually expect it to have a slight negative effect since her presence will garner more hate from anti-Trump supporters.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I do not think that Sarah Palin will provide much of any increase in support for Trump. After the 2008 election, due to many of the ignorant statements that she made, her popularity has definitely decreased. If her endorsement of Trump manages to help him, I believe that it will only help for a short period of time, and only during the primary election. During the general election, however, I believe that it could definitely hurt Trump.
