UK leader: 'More likely than not' bomb brought down Russian plane

This article is about the recent downing of Metrojet Flight 9286, a Russian commercial jet heading from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, Russia. The plane crashed Saturday, October 31st in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. Of the 224 people on board, 219 were Russian, four were Ukrainian, and one person was Belarusian, all of whom died. British Prime Minister David Cameron has now come out and said that it was most likely brought down by a bomb. As a result of this news, many British citizens have avoided flying back from Sharm el-Sheikh, a popular tourist destination, until the airport beefs up security. US officials have their opinions on the issue, stating that intelligence suggests that someone at the airport helped to get the bomb onto the plane. US intelligence also suggests that ISIS planted planted a bomb on the plane. On Wednesday, an audio message was posted on online from ISIS' Sinai Branch, claiming responsibility for the attack. Both Egypt and Russia have denied the claims, saying there's no evidence to support such an attack. Do you think that this is something ISIS would do? Also, do you think this is something the United States should be involved in, or should we stay out of it?

  1. ISIS has been very clear about the lengths they're willing to go to for their cause. They're an extremely radical group that even Al Qaeda disapproves of. I think this is something that ISIS would do, however, I don't believe they did. As Egypt and Russia have stated, their isn't any concrete evidence to prove this was a deliberate attack. I have doubts about whether ISIS has the connections, the Intel, or the staff to complete a major attack like this. As for U.S. involvement, I think we should hold back. There's no gaurantee that this was an act of terrorism so it may be hasty to involve ourselves.

  2. This does sound like something ISIS would do, and it's possible that they're responsible. But it's also possible that Metrojet Flight 9286 crashed for another reason besides a bomb, or if it was a bomb, it wasn't planted by ISIS. Because we don't know if this was an act of terrorism or not, the US should remain involved in the investigation until the cause of the crash is determined.

  3. I think there's a likelihood that ISIS planted the bomb, but they also could be lying to take credit of another terrorist group's actions or for a mere mechanical mishap. ISIS likes to have there name out there for what they do to put fear into others and by having their name on top of this they are succeeding in that. In my opinion, until solid evidence is found the U.S. should just observe how it all plays out.

  4. While planting a bomb on a plane is something ISIS would do, I wouldn't put it past them to take credit for a plane crash in which there is no concrete evidence that there was an explosion on board. The United States should most certainly not take action at this stage past routine investigation. We should cooperate with other nations to find the true cause of the crash. However, the last thing we need to do is throw more lives and money at the Middle East.

  6. ISIS would not hesitate to do something like this, but I do not believe there is enough evidence yet to support a final conclusion. The US should definitely not get involved in this issue yet, as it would only heighten tensions and waste money while there is still no solid evidence.

  7. This definitely could have been the actions of ISIS, but that does not mean they were involved. ISIS works to instill fear, and they will take the chances they can get to do that-even if they were not responsible for the crash. Concerning the US, our government should stay out of the issue for now. Being involved with the investigation is fine, but there is no need for the US to be involved in a situation that could cause damage down the road. For now, the US should step back and let the crash be sorted out without involving our own political affairs into the matter.

  8. This is something ISIS would attempt to do, but I doubt they are actually responsible. There is no evidence that the plane crash was due to a bomb. The US should not get involved, considering it was highly unlikely thT the plane crashed due to a bomb.

  9. While definitely something ISIS would do, I would hesitate to blame it on them before we have solid proof. As others have mentioned, it's not unlike ISIS to claim responsibility for the crash even if they did not cause it. I think the most important thing at this point is to further investigate before drawing any conclusions.

  10. Although this is something ISIS would do, given their radical nature and willingness to attack innocents, there is scant evidence that they played a role in this; it seems to be still too early for anybody to know who, if anybody, was responsible. That being said, the United States absolutely should not get involved where there is not yet a definite crisis; whether we get involved would depend entirely on what becomes of investigations of the plane crash.

  11. ISIS would do this in a heart beat. They have a strong hatred of Russia and have lead more terrorist attacks on their soil then ours. But I think the issue is can they, and I'm really not sure. But I do think the FBI should go into this area and assist the investigation in anyway possible.
