Trump says US will 'have no choice' but to shut some mosques down

  1. Oh my. How would shutting down the mosques help this problem? The question is whether or not to allow the refugees into our country, not whether or not to allow Islam in America. We are a nation of free religion and this goes against our Constitution, our rights, and Americans' view of themselves. We cannot shift our focus from the refugees entering our country to the Muslims already here. This I do not understand. How could this ever be a solution?

  2. Seems clearer to me everyday that Donald Trump is a leader who capitalizes on the fears and prejudices of the people to gain power... Hm... If only we had learned a term for this in class... Oh right! He's a demagogue! But I'm all seriousness, this is the most outlandish claim he has ever made. He cannot violate the first amendment. Even if he got elected, Donald Trump would find his efforts thrawted by the courts. He is a silly man with absolutely no idea of what the president actually does/can do and should be treated as such.

  3. Donald Trump is an idiot and a disgrace to America. How would shutting down mosques accomplish anything? It would only serve to anger Muslims in the US. Trump has turned the main issue of allowing Syrian refugees into the US into an issue of whether or not Islam should be restricted in the US, a blatant violation of the 1st Amendment. Today, I read an article where Trump claimed people in Jersey City, where there are large Arab populations, were cheering when the 9/11 attacks happened. Clearly, Donald Trump is a racist, and none of his suggestions should be taken seriously.

  4. In my opinion, Donald Trump exploits his fears and prejudices to the people in order to gain power. It seems so wrong how he thinks that closing down mosques could accomplish anything? It's only going to upset people, what good is that going to do? We are a nation of free religion and this goes against our rights that are given to us as U.S. citizens. We can't shift our focus of the refugees entering the U.S. to the Muslims that are already here. That doesn't solve anything. This is no solution in any way. Donald Trump has no idea what he's doing and shouldn't be taken seriously.

  5. In my opinion Trump tends to try and make statements to draw attention to himself and his campaign. To put it honestly I believe he thrives off the drama. He is aware of this and tries to make some shocking and obscene points and comments. The more attention the things he says brings, the higher he seems to rise in the polls. That’s where I think these types of statements come from. I personally don’t believe in restricting people religions and beliefs.

  6. Trump is being Trump and saying horrible things again. I don't know if he actually agrees with what he's saying but the scary thing is that there are plenty of people out there who don agree with him. It is horrible that what he is saying is only creating more stigma for Muslim Americans and we shouldn't be letting his words spread like this. He is one of the problems in our country in that he can get so much attention with his poisonous words. Obviously this statement says he's totally incapable of being a president so maybe more people will look at this statement and realize that he is a heaping pile of garbage and he'll lose attention.

  7. I think the main thing Trump is trying to do by making erroneous statements such as these is play on the fears and inner aggression that exists in some Americans. By rallying emotional support, he believes he can get enough people on his side so that he can stage a winning campaign. I sincerely hope that Americans can see past these blatantly ridiculous statements and accusations, as they only promote the type of mindset that leads to idiocracy.

  8. Personally, I think that Trump's recent thoughtless and outlandish statements will be the end to his campaign's success. I struggle to find the words to explain just how unbelievable the things he has said are. Firstly, how would one come to the conclusion that we as a nation will "have" to shut down mosques? Not only do we not have to do such a thing, but doing such a thing would do more than simply ignore the Constitution, it would simply ignore human's rights on the whole. There are no plausible justifications for the action's he is beginning to promote, and I hope that their implications and historical resonances are clear to everyone. I struggle to believe that even Trump believes that this would be a good idea or help anything. To me it seems easier to think that this was a PR stunt, and a failed one at that. Again, I think that this will signal the fall of Trump's popularity, and from there maybe even bring about the start of the portion of the election that brings the final, true candidates to the forefront.

  9. At this point in his campaign, I feel like Trump is just trying to scare Americans by making these ridiculous statements. Shutting down mosques is unconstitutional and violates citizens basic rights.People come to America for freedom of religion, and violating that freedom would cause so many more problems for the country. Even if shutting down mosques was constitutional, it would make the situation even worse rather than solving it. I understand why some people are hesitant about letting Syrian refugees into the country, but we should be trying to help them instead of discriminating against them because of their religion.

  10. Trump’s “solution” of shutting down mosques is absolutely ridiculous. There are millions of muslims in this world; only a handful are violent. Any person of any religion can be violent. No religion promotes violence; it is people who decide to be violent. Shutting down mosques also denies people their right of religious freedom.
I’m surprised Trump is still popular, but, at the same time, his outlandish statements make him popular--and that is his goal. It’s scary to think that there are people who support him and agree with what he is saying. Hopefully soon people will realize how ridiculous he and his viewpoints are, and he will lose some supporters.
