Jeb Bush and Immigration

Jeb Bush and Immigration

This article discusses many things that have come up in class, including a possible Jeb Bush presidential run, the Republican party needing to change their attitude to appeal more to immigrants, and the media. I personally can't think of many worse things than another Bush in the White House. Also, I am interested to see if there actually is a realignment of the Republican Party. The immigrant vote and many other minority votes will not go away, so now it's up to the Republican Party to appeal to the new American population.

  1. As much as I would want to give Jeb Bush a chance, I really don't see much that I could give him a chance because of what the Bush's have done to America. I Agree with Talia in the fact that Bush was a pretty bad president and made America go from not having a debt, to now having billions and billions of dollars in debt. If I was to give him a chance, I would want to hear him talk and see his views. Who knows, maybe he is different from the other bush's and may have see the major flaw that George W. Bush did to America.

  2. I think it is good that the Republicans are aware of the areas in which they do not appeal to voters and are reevaluating their candidates and image for the next election.

  3. I don't think Jeb Bush will actually get consideration for the presidential nomination. Regardless, I think this is a good issue for the Republicans to compromise. I'm honestly getting a little sick of Republicans being so rigid on certain issues. It's not like providing an easier path to citizenship would be bad for the economy, or that it violates some moral principle.

    1. I agree with you, and it's not just Republicans. Politicians in general these days are too stubborn. If they had the best interests of their constituents in mind, politicians would get over their egos and political parties and work to better our country.

    2. Talia and Grace, I completely agree. Politicians are so set in their ways that their constituents concerns are put on the back burner. That is not how this country was meant to be run.

  4. I have to agree with Talia. As harsh as it sounds, I am no where near willing enough to have another Bush in the white house after what the past two have done. Its a name recognition thing I know, but that can be a good or bad thing. On the other hand though, it is nice to see Republicans willing to shift their stances, however, there are two parties. The democrats should also try working shifting stances a little bit to maximize this benefit.

  5. I think it kinda sucks for Jeb, that he is a Bush, because he could be a really great guy and president, but tons of people aren't willing to give him a chance, because of his family. I think it would be a very good idea for the Republicans to change their image and what they stand for.

    1. As Sara said it sucks that he is a Bush. He will always be remembered by the presidency's and would not ever have a shot in my opinion.

  6. I think it's a very good idea for the Republicans to reevaluate the places they are too rigid and less representative of their constituents in. It's also a shame that Jeb Bush doesn't seem to have a chance because of his last name.

  7. I also agree that it would be a good idea for the Republican party to change some of their policies and ideals, but I think everyone in Washington in general just needs to become more flexible and more willing to compromise. This isn't any new opinion, but our two parties seem to be so at opposite ends, there just needs to be a change.

  8. Its good that Bush is willing to come to the center on some issues I think this will help his appeal and I dont think that as many people will refuse to vote for another Bush as this post would suggest, as disliked as the Bushes are I think if Jeb is good enough many people will be willing to separate the record of his family and his record

  9. I hate that people are so biased to not having another Bush in office. He'd be a great president. Just because someone in your family didn't do as good of a job as they should have doesn't mean that a kin can't do a good job in office. I see lots of potential in Jeb Bush and hope that he will be a candidate for the 2016 election.

  10. I'm not very familiar with decisions that Jeb Bush made while he was the governor of Florida, so I can't say what type of president he would be. However, if he does not seem to be planning on running at this point, I find it hard to believe that he will change his mind. Others have already started expressing their own interests about running.

  11. I can imagine that many people would have a bias against Bush because of his family political history. On the other hand, the Republicans certainly have work to do about appealing to the immigrant and other minority voters.

  12. I don't really know anything about Bush, so I can't really comment on him, but I agree that he will automatically have a bias with that name, unfortunately for him. Republicans definitely have find a way to appeal to more groups of people including minorities and immigrants.

  13. I really don't think Jeb Bush will actually get consideration for the presidential nomination; also, i agree with Grace that this is a good issue for the Republicans to compromise. The Republican continues to lose supporters because I believe they have separated themselves so largely from the majority of citizens in America because of their stubbornness on issues.
