Support for Tea Party Drops Sharply
Now this was surprising. I found this article on the Tea Party and was extremely surprised how sharply the Tea Party fan base has decline. Districts that agreed overwhelmingly with the Tea Party just a year ago are now disagreeing with them. The numbers given in the article are stunning.

The Tea Party is…Staunch? They "Can't Get No Satisfaction". The dropping support in their main activity locations are amusing. The tea party has gone all out with this debt commission plan and there isn't no stopping. As for the future presidential election, I agree that a candidate leaning conservative would be taunted about the staunch tea party members. Maybe if the allegations aren't true about Herman Cain it will be his time to shine. Scoreboard For This Article: Republicans = -5 , Democrats = -1
ReplyDeleteTea party support is dropping because the people who disliked all along are now taking them seriously. When a bunch of people with powdered wigs, a nonsensical core message, an overtly demonstrated lack of anything resembling political aptitude, who are literally eating fried butter (that's true) get together, the judicious amongst us dismiss this horde of oafs and pay them no more attention. But when these same people start winning congressional seats, their philosophical opponents may feel compelled to speak up. The possibility that this phenonomen will hurt more sensible Republican candidates is not only real, but is certain. Tea party extremists have taken over the Republican party, as people like Michelle Bachman and Rick Perry have riden their support all the way towards the top of the polls, smothering real candidates like...uh, Herman Cain? The Republican party's ideals are now identified with the Tea Party's,and unless they plan on running for President of the "I Support Guns, War, and Hunting, but Not Abortion" club, they might to join in driving the tea party back into the squalid crevice from which they crawled out of.
ReplyDeleteI want to see how the Republican Party will react to the Tea Party dragging them down in the presidential election. Maybe the Tea Party will split into its own party in the presidential election. I agree with Jake Day when he said that people are finally starting to realize that candidates with this nonsensical view of politics are starting to win seats in the House and Senate. I have to say that I am not surprised by this decline in support for the Tea Party, in fact, I am surprised that this decline has not occurred sooner.
ReplyDeleteI am shocked by the rapid decline of the Tea Party, but I can't say that I don't understand the reason for it. People are getting tired of these extreme polotics we're seeing in America today. The Tea Party was way too extreme for my taste and I'm sure many people shared my opinion and that is why the Tea Party is on the decline.
ReplyDeleteUnlike the others in class, I am not surprised by the decline of the Tea Party. The decline in my opinion is not because of people taking them seriously, but its because the Tea Party was never something solid, but more of an idea. It is basically a branch of the Republican Party with more extreme ideas and ways to solve the country's problems. People aren't running as Tea Party candidates, people are just saying that their ideas line up with those of the Tea Party (Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Jeff Sessions). Their support is dropping because the Republicans goal in this election is to get Obama out of office, therefore they need a more moderate candidate of the Republican Party to win. This would make Tea Party candidates go down in number because they are viewed as too extreme.
ReplyDeleteI’m actually a little bit surprised at the decline of support for the Tea Party - but at the same time, I understand it. The Republican party is trying to get a more moderate candidate to win the election. Therefore, the Tea Party candidates are seen as too extreme and they are losing support.
