Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton Prepare Differently for the Debate

Both candidates have a lot at stake in the first presidential debate, upcoming on Monday night.  However, they are going about their preparations for the event quite differently.

  1. I believe Clinton getting under Trump’s skin by questioning his net worth and calling him “Donald” will work, but it’s sad that this is how she needs to play the game. Instead of showing her intelligence and past experience, she needs to make him turn into a big baby to make her look good. It also shows how childish and egotistical he is. For Clinton, asking “What would Ronald Reagan say about a Republican nominee who attacks American generals and heaps praise on Russia’s president?” is actual brilliant. Republicans generally love Reagan, so using him against Trump may make GOP voters on the edge of voting for Trump question him.
Trump is planning on speaking of big-picture themes and not focusing on facts and figures, but that is the reason so many people, democrats in particular, have issues with him—he is to big picture. But at the same time, he’s not exactly aiming for the democratic votes. Many of his followers are from a lower education background and, quite frankly, love the big picture statements he makes. They just want to hear power statements, not the truth or reasoning. Trump is one to sensationalize ideas and, based on this article, he will be sticking to what he does best for this debate—saying basically nothing, but very loudly. As written in the article, “Mr. Trump can get bored with both debate preparations and debates themselves. His advisers have been reinforcing the importance of listening and focusing on every word Mrs. Clinton says and looking for ways to counterattack.” His team must be so frustrated with him. He sounds like a toddler in his terrible-twos. The article also stated that his “advisers are concerned that he underestimates the difficulty of standing still, talking pointedly and listening sharply for 90 minutes.” Based on this statement he genuinely sounds like a child. Normal adults do not have trouble “standing still” but I guess Trump is just something else!
