Terror Attack Kills Four in Jerusalem Synagogue

Tuesday, two Palestinian men murdered four Israelis worshiping inside a synagogue in Jerusalem. Three of the Israelis were dual-American citizens. The terror group Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, praised the attack. U.S. leaders, such as Secretary of State John Kerry, condemned it, despite the fact that the U.S. government provides about $400 million in annual aid to the Palestinian Authority, which includes Hamas. In response to the attack, Barack Obama said, "it's important for both Palestinians and Israelis to work together to lower tensions and reject violence." This is highly unlikely, since Hamas's charter calls for the unconditional destruction of Israel. What do you think of the latest Palestinian aggression towards Israel?

  1. In my opinion, I do not believe that these types of attacks will ever stop. Until one side is destroyed, there will continue to be violence in this area as it is clear that both sides have a powerful and passionate hatred for each other. I do not think that the United States should be actively aiding either side too much, as the two regions are still fighting each other despite the world's best efforts to reconcile the differences between Palestinians and Israelis. Though the United States can help bring temporary stability to the region, I do not believe that America can ever establish a lasting peace between Israel and Palestine. As evidenced by the article, the cycle of violence will never stop. After this attack, the Israelis, whether it be the government or the people themselves, will retaliate against the Palestinians, which is understandable. However, this will cause the Palestinians to also want revenge, causing them to attack again, restarting the cycle.

  2. I agree with Raman. It is very unlikey that there will be a easy peaceful solution to this conflict. It involves two passionate enemies and the US getting involved too much is not smart. However, providing aid for people is something that we should be involved in. The cycle will hopefully stop but it wont in the near future so at this point the US should just aid people without taking a side.

  3. I do not see an end to any of these attacks. Hamas preaches the destruction of Israel. As Raman already stated, these two sides hate each other. The US supporting both sides is not smart, especially if one feels as if the US is favoring the other. This could cause more enemies which the US already has enough of. As long as the two sides are still fighting I would like to see the US cut funds.

  4. I too agree with Raman. I don't think that the two sides will ever stop fighting. There will never be an end to these attacks and if there ever will be, there will be rebels who still want to attack. I don't think that the US should be involved. I feel that the US will too be dragged in even deeper than they currently are now. As Dan said, this can cause more enemies for the US and that is something that we do not need.

  5. The United States is leading into the case of Iron Man. Iron Man designs weapons only to have them used against himself. I think that this cyclical action of providing weapons and "aid" to these countries is worn out and we need to change our attitude towards terrorism to indifference. We should condemn all acts of terror and war and invest in diplomacy. These attacks will not stop, but we can do our best to minimize the effects and occurrences.

  6. As long as these two states exist I don't think that there will ever be any sort of stop to this violence. We see fixes that could be made to stop but I believe they are in too deep to stop... Any time soon at least. I do believe that we should try and involve ourselves less than we do already at the risk of making more enemies.

  7. As in the previous comments, I agree with Raman too. I think with both parties in existence the violence and fighting will continue. In terms of the United States involvements in this turmoil, I agree with Ethan. By lessening our involvement in the attacks, we are just creating a more secure nation for ourselves. We are already involved in enough controversy, why voluntarily create more?

  8. I think that the United States needs to stop picking sides in fights that aren't ours, especially when both groups are simultaneously in the wrong. This will just create undesired conflict. I also think that it is possible that they could achieve peace democratically. A lot of my class mates have declared the fighting between the two groups a lost cause and i don't think that's necessrily true.

  9. It is beyond disheartening to hear about bombings of places of peace and worship. The four rabbis killed during this bombing, and the one police officers shot while simply trying to help the situation, were all innocent people who did not deserve this type of violent death. Though these events are terrible, I cannot even imagine how to reconcile the situation between Palestine and Israel.

  10. I truly hope that before I die we can see peace in the Middle East, but I don't think that will ever happen. It's terrible that these killings in places of worship are caused by conflicting religions. Don't all the big religions preach to love thy neighbor and not to kill? When these things happen it's very hard to make sense of them. This violence needs to stop but will it ever?

  11. The rampant terrorism in Israel is disgusting. I believe that the US and Israel should take a harder stance against the Palestinian incitement of terrorism. Hamas claims that they support resistance against the "occupation." Resistance certainly does not include killing people inside of a place of worship.
