Races Say as Much about Future as Election Day
This is a really interesting article. It looks at how the races for election for today will affect the midterm elections next year and potential presidential candidates in 2016. Specifically, it focuses on how Chris Christie is expected to have a landslide victory in NJ this year, stealing Democratic votes from Barbara Buono, and how the tight race for Virginia Governor between Terry McAuliffe (D) and Ken Cuccinelli (R) could be determined how people vote for the Libertarian candidate, Robert Sarvis. I really thought that this would be a good article for today because it focuses on today, Election Day, something that only comes once a year, but it affects us every day of the year.

Sorry for being a werido, but this made me really happy I'm living in this time. I think a lot of pre-existing assumptions (Virginia is Republican; NJ is liberal) are changing and fading more quickly than they ever have historically. I think this might have to do with technology and how much easier and faster information is spread and created and absorbed.
ReplyDeleteI have to be a weirdo with Dean...it is a really good time to be alive. There is constant change. I really respect Chris Christie, and I am glad that he was reelected. The way that he handled the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy was really impressive, I also really like his ability to work with democrats. I think it would be interesting if he ran for president in 2016.
ReplyDeleteI think this article did a really good job of covering a lot of the major points in the different elections that occurred. Like Dean and Michaela said it is really interesting to see how a lot of the common stereotypes that we normally see with voting patterns are being broken. This article mentions the dissatisfaction that a lot of voters showed with tea party candidates. These results seem to shed light on how many people will vote in future major elections.
ReplyDeleteI also liked this article because it shows that maybe our political parties can work together. Christie is a prime example--a Republican governor with a Democratic legislature, and NJ has managed to get things done such as legalize gay marriage. We live in a great time period for politics.
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy that politicians such as Christie are able to work with members of other parties. It still bugs me a little, however, that campaigning for an election in three years has started now in a sense. It seems as though if Chris Christie breaths than you will hear about the implications this will have on his uncertain campaign for president in 2016.
